Aim of the Experiment:-

To determine angle of minimum deviation for a given prism by plotting a graph between angle of
incidence and angle of deviation.

Apparatus Required :-

1. Prism

2. Geometry box

3. Hair pin -4

4. Drawing board

5. Cellotape or fixing pin

6. Graph paper

Theory :-

Angle of incidence :- The angle between incident ray and the normal at the point of incidence is called
angle of incidence.

Angle of deviation :- The angle between incident ray and emergent ray is called angle of deviation. It is
denoted by (δ).

Angle of minimum deviation:-

The minimum value of the angle of deviation is called angle of minimum deviation.

The refractive index of the prism is given by

For angle of minimum deviation

Graph and Calculation :- we have plotted a graph taking i in x-axis and δ in y-axis. The minimum
angle of deviation is found to be __ in degree.
