DORSINI AN00201T 22207900 Civilisation Examen Seconde Session

In UK, There is 2 form of the powers of the legislative government that rules

the United Kingdom, the Government and the Parliament including in it the

House of Commons which is elected and the House of Lords which is not.

The Parliament is described in an extract of a press article of The Observer

written by Michael Savage (Policy Editor) the Saturday 19th November 2022

who’s named ‘’ Keir Starmer : ‘’ I will abolish House of Lords to ‘restore trust

in politics’ ‘’

Keir Starler is a british politician born the 2th September 1962 and he’s is the

leader of the Opposition and also of the Labour Party.

Its objective through the document is to dissolve the House of Lords and have a

new House of Lords elected directly by the people and not by politicians to

bring confidence.

Keir Starmer wants to bring a balance between the two chambers in order to be

able to ensure that both can be elected by the people and it is on this point that

he relies to be heard during the general elections of 2020 that he managed to

win.

In addition, the House of Lord receives a great deal of support from the public,

which could allow Keir Starmer to complete his reform.

What does this reform of Keir Starmer explained in the Press Article can bring

trust in politics and Parliament?

In the first part we will explain the political situation of the House of Lords and

finally in the last parite we will discuss whether the reform desired by Keir

Starmer can be really achieved?

In the first segment highlighted, it is explained that the reform will be voted not

by politicians but by the citizens themselves and who will be able to choose

them-and this is the main point as well as the objective of the reform because

the House of Lords is currently voted by politicians while the House of

Commons is not.

In the Second Segment Highlighted, Keir Starmer asserts that the reform

should in no way replace any of the functions of the House of Commons and

that it will remain a mere chamber for amendments and voting legislation,

which allows us to confirm that Keir Starmer’s objective is to only to balance

the two chambers.
