EXCEPTIONS: the tense is/can be retained


1.- If the reported sentence deals with a fact or general truth.
‘There are many islands in the Atlantic Ocean’

2.- If the speaker reports something immediately or soon after it was said.

3.- If will is the modal verb (expressing future time) and the situation has not changed.
