PHILIPPINES

1 A.D ANIMISM
This religion was widely
practiced in the pre-colonial
Philippines. As of today, only
a handful of the indigenous
tribes continue to practice
the old traditions.

Although no written record


exists about early Buddhism in
800
the country, recent BUDDHISM
archaeological discoveries and
a few scant references in the
other nations ' historical
records can testify that
Buddhism was present from
the 9th century.

800-1000 Hinduism's influence and


the folklore arrived in the
HINDUISM Philippines from about 9th
to 10th century A.D.

Earlier from the year 1350,


Islam had been spreading since
1380
then in the northward from ISLAM
Indonesia to the Philippine
Archipelago.
In 1380, Makhdum Karim, an
Arab trader born in Johore,
arrived in Sulu from Malacca
and
brought Islam to the
Philippines.

1521
In 1521, the Spanish
reached the archipelago
through the expedition
ROMAN CATHOLICISM around the world led
by Portuguese-born
Spanish explorer Ferdinand
Magellan and introduce
Roman Catholicism to the
locals, which was later on
continued to spread in
1565 from the arrival of
Miguel Lopez de Legazpi.
