God’s Sovereignty & The Inerrancy of Scripture

God’s sovereignty BIG Problem – finite terms to define an infinite being

*Infinite definition: “limitless or endless in space, extent, or size; impossible to measure or calculate.”

Finite definition: “Having limits or bounds.”

Omniscient: “knowing everything.”

 Is God incapable of learning?

 How does this fit with the Biblical narrative?
 Why aren’t more specifics given in prophecy?
 Can free will still apply when a God who knows everything is in total control?

Omnipresent: “widely or constantly encountered; common or widespread.”

 If, like light and darkness, evil exists in the absence of God and He is everywhere then… how is
evil anywhere?

Omnipotent: “having unlimited power; able to do anything.” – Google/Oxford

The Inerrancy of Scripture BIG problem – Through human hands…

Inerrancy definition: “Exempt from error” M.W. Dict.

Contradictions:

Natural sin prevails most often but Jesus takes the penalty so there is freedom but… stop sinning still.
Impossible to not sin, yet the goal is to not sin.

Unconditional love, conditional relationship.

God: Transcendent and intimate, has one on one interaction with select individuals AND slays entire
armies for one man’s mistake.

Jesus didn’t abolish the Law but fulfilled it. So follow part of the OT Law…

The Bible is teachable and useful and applicable to all. However, context is important.

The “Word of God”: Jesus or the Bible?

Absolutes or situational solutions?

Face value or contextual?

Divine appointment, predestination, and guidance?

Humans corrupt with sin can construct and maintain an inerrant document throughout years,
interpretations, and languages.
