2. What is definition of Translation? (use your own sentence by referring to at least 5

experts of Translation)
Translation is the transfer of text from the source language to its equivalent text in the
target language, and expresses the meaning of a text into the target language, exactly
as what the author wants to convey.

3. What is the requirement of Translator? Explain in detail.

a) Have a Language Education Background
Whether it's academically or self-taught, a translator must have a good
educational background in the field of language. Especially if you know things
related to theories about translation and linguistics such as grammar,
vocabulary, and so on.
b) Have an Interest in Translation
A translator does not just translate words from the source language to the
source language. A translator must be skilled in composing sentences using
words that are appropriate to the context without changing the meaning.
c) Having Experience as a Translator
To become an expert in a field, you must have experience to master it. This
applies if you want to become a translator. The first step that might be done is
to help a friend to translate or learn from translation books.
d) Mastering the Field of Translation
In this case, you have to know which fields you can master. If you are new to
becoming a document translator in the field of technology, then master the
vocabulary in that area. Don't force yourself to be able to master languages in
other fields before you really understand what you are studying.
e) Keep Trying to Be Professional
The title as a professional translator is a desirable achievement for translators.
This status can also indirectly make you flooded with jobs or increase fees.
f) Don't Break Client Trust
 Satisfied clients will be directly proportional to the increase in fees and your
job as a translator. Some clients may annoy you, but don't repay them with
lousy work.
g) Continue to hone abilities by learning
Language is a dynamic field. So that you don't get left behind, keep learning
and fill your knowledge with various information about languages or other
fields. Reading is one of the mandatory activities that must be carried out by
translators to increase vocabulary and compose sentences. Don't hesitate to
discuss with fellow translators for the sake of sharing knowledge.

 Word for Word Translation

In the word-for-word translation method, sentences will be translated one
word after another sequentially without regard to the context.
 Literal Translation
The literal translation method is almost the same as the word for word
translation method, that is, it does not pay attention to the context. Literal
translation can also be used in the early stages of translation (pre-translation)
to understand difficult texts. The difference between this method and the
previous method is that this method tries to change the structure of the source
language into the target language.
 Faithful Translation
Faithful translation tries to maintain the form or format of the source language.
This method is suitable for texts that have a form and format that is faithful to
the source language, such as legal texts.
 Semantic Translation
The semantic translation method pays attention to the aesthetic value of the
source text so that the translated text must also look beautiful and natural.
Apart from paying attention to the aesthetic value and fairness of the source
text, semantic translation also compromises at the level of meaning if
necessary.
 Adaptation
 It can be said that adaptation is a translation method that is contrary to the
word for word translation method. If the word for word translation method is
oriented to the source language, the adaptation method is oriented to the target
language. Adaptation is usually used to adapt a play or comedy.
 Free Translation
This method is only concerned with the message of the source text, but does
not pay attention to the form and aesthetics of the translated text, so this
method is not suitable for translating poetry. Usually this free translation is in
the form of a paraphrase which can be longer or shorter than the original text.
 Idiomatic Translation
This method tends to distort the nuances of meaning if the source text uses
idioms that are not found in the target language. Therefore, usually these
idiomatic expressions are translated like ordinary expressions.
 Communicative Translation
This method seeks to reproduce the contextual meaning of the source language
so that the language aspects and content are easily understood by readers of
the target language text. If free translation focuses on meaning without making
adjustments to the target culture, communicative translation methods still
present elements of the source culture even though they are not bound.
