another? Are these relationships sources of conflict?
Are these conflicts resolved?
5. How does the marital status of a character affect her
decisions or happiness?
6. How are women’s lives portrayed in the work?

Moralist Approach Guide Questions:

1. What view of life does the story present?


2. What does the work say about human nature?
3. What moral lesson or ethical teaching is the author
presenting in the text/or through character, plot, or
theme?
4. Does the text seek to corrupt or negatively influence
the reader? How so and/or why?
5. What moral statement, if any, does this story make? Is
it explicit or implicit?
6. How does the text play out ethical principles?
