16) Green Environment for Sustainable Development

Sustainable Development is one of the most discussed topics now. It is the organizing principle for
meeting hurman development goals while simultaneously sustainability of natural systems to provide
the natural resources and ecosystem serview upon which the econonny and society depend . It can be
defined as the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of
future generation to meet their own needs .

On the other side , Green Environment relates to the concerns for environmental conservation and
improved health of the environment , This includes supporting practices like informed consumption ,
conservation practices and investment in renewable energy .

While the modern concept of sustainable development is derived mostly from the 1987 Brundtland
Report , it is also rooted in earlier ideas about sustainable forest management and twentieth - century
environmental concerns.৭৫ টি ফ োকোস ফেতে Bank Recruitment Exam Boost গ্রুতে জতেন কতেন. As the
concept developed , it has shifted ! towards focus more on economic development , social development
and environmental protection for future generations . It has been suggested that the term '
sustainability ' should be viewed as humanity's target goal of human - ecosystem equilibrium , while '
sustainable development ' refers to the holistic approach and temporal processes that lead us to the end
point of sustainability .

Modern economies are endeavoring to reconcile ambitious economic development a obligations of

preserving natural resources and ecosystems , as the two are usually seen as of conflicting nature .
Instead of holding climate change commitments and and other sustainability measures as a remedy to
economic development , turning and liveraging them into market opportunities will do greater good .

The concept of sustainable development has been including the question of What is to be sustained in
sustainable development . It has been argued that there is no such thing as a sustainable use of a non-
renewable resource , since any positive rate of exploitation will eventually lead to the exhaustion of
earth's finite stock . this perspectives Industrial Revolution as a whole unsustainable.

The significance of green environment for sustainable development can be realized from Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGS) settled by United Nations. In SDGS, 8 goals express the correlation between
the green environment & sustainable development directly.৭৫ টি ফ োকোস ফেতেো Bank Recruitment

17) Bangladesh : A Rising Economy

Bangladesh is 41st largest economic power in the world in nominal terms & mentioned as One of the
eleven emerging markets of middle income countries. It can be said that Bangladesh is moving towards
on the development highway now. Bangladesh economy drives largely by its exports of ready-made
garments, remittances & agriculture sector.৭৫ টি ফ োকোস ফেতে Bank Recruitment Exam Boost গ্রুতে

run in the development highway as follows: According to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the GDP
growth stood at 8.13% in FY 2018-19 which was near about 5% before 2008. Per capita GNI stood at USD
1909 & GDP stood at USD 1827 respectively in FY 2018-19.

2016 7.1

2017 7.3

2018 7.9

2019 forecast 8.1

2020 forecast 8.0

Bangladesh has been included on the list of United Nations Least Developing Countrics (UNLDC) since
1975. In March 2018, Bangladesh met the requirement to be recognized as a developing country & aims
to be finalized by 2021. Bangladesh's Per capita income is increasing gradually. Literacy rate is 72.3%
now. The foreign reserve of Bangladesh has reached up to USD 32 billion.

Under the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) framework, it is estimated that the world economies
need to spend about USD 57 trillion on infrastructure by 2030 to enable the anticipated levels of GDP
growth globally. As the consequences of this framework, there are some ongoing mega projects in
Bangladesh. These are Padma Bridge, Payra Seaport, Dhaka Metro Rail, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant,
Karnafuli Underwater Tunnel, Dhaka Eleveted Expressway, Matarbari Coal Power Plant, Rampal Power
Plant etc.

There are some challenges as well. Widening disparity between rich & poor, corruption, unemployment
(34% graduates are unemployed), political instability etc. are represses the development run. Bank

Taking some steps may help to Bangladesh's journey towards the anticipated level as follows: -

-Ensuring political stability.

-Focus on service sector through ICT.

-Sending more skilled & trained workers abroad to earn more remittance & so.

To sustain this progress, the country needs continuity in priority reform areas: financial sector, fiscal,
infrastructure, human capital and business regulation. "For Bangladesh, our projection is that it will be
able to maintain over 7% GDP growth in the short-mid-term. But there are risk factors from both
external and internal sources," said World Bank Bangladesh Lead Economist Zahid Hussain. The biggest
internal risk is in the banking sector, which is ridden with Non-performing Loans (NPLS). Another risk is a
shortfall in revenue mobilization, which hinders the implementation of the development budget.

After the Liberation war, Bangladesh started his journey from zero. Our economy was in the primary

bottomless basket. They were confused about the future of Bangladesh. But today Bangladesh is an
emerging nation in the world economy by proved them false.

Renowned economic research institute Goldman Sacks mentioned 11 nations as emerging tigers

Boost গ্রুতে জতেন কতেন . The budget is feasible from 01 July 2019.

There are some challenges have to be faced to implement the budget:

The adverse balance is 26.99% which is very challenging to fulfill.

The allocations for ADP is 2,02,721 Tk. It is difficult to implement this due to some factors like corruption
in grassroot, Gi complexity etc.

Supposed GDP growth is 8.2% which is 7.8% in last fiscal year.

Price Inflation is supposed to be 5.5% which is 5.6% in last fiscal year. Tax income is supposed to be
72.21% where 23.5% is VAT which is difficult to achieve.

According to ESCAP report, Bangladesh spends minimum in Education & Health among the 52 countries
in Asia Pacific zones. In this budget, the allocation in education & technology displaced to 2nd position
where it was in 1st place in previous budget.

Giving chance to make the black money white in buying land & flats is also a criticised decision.

There are also some prudential points in the budget 2019-20. These are:

2% accord in remittance will encourage the expatriates to send money thorugh proper chanel & it will
play a vital role in foreign reserve increment.

The "Startup fund for youth" of Tk. 100 Crore will encourage the young enterprenuer to explore their
business, innovations & thoughts.

Including 2,730 non-govt. educational institutions (plans & then implemented) in MPO list will play a
role to make a revolutionary change in the education sector.

Increasing Tk. 2,000 monthly allowance for the freedom fighters (Tk. 12,000 instead of Tk. 10,000)
glorifies the spirit of liberation war.

Reducing regulatory duty from 20% to 10% on life saving medical gases was also a good decision.

20) Coronavirus (COVID-19)

A novel coronavirus was first detected in late December in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China
and is causing an outbreak of respiratory disease in countries around the world. On February 11,
2020, the World Health Organization named the disease coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Chinese health officials have reported tens of thousands of cases of COVID-19 in China, with
the virus reportedly spreading from person-to-person in parts of that country. COVID-19
illnesses, most of them associated with travel from Wuhan, also are being reported in a growing
number of international locations. Some person-to-person spread of this virus outside China has
been detected.

The virus can cause pneumonia. Those who have fallen ill are reported to suffer coughs, fever
and breathing difficulties. In severe cases there can be organ failure. As this is viral pneumonia,
antibiotics are of no use. The antiviral drugs we have against flu will not work. Recovery
depends on the strength of the immune system. Many of those who have died were already in
poor health.

As of 4 March, the global death toll is 3,190, while more than 93,000 people have been infected
in more than 80 countries. In China there have been 2,981 deaths, and there are 80,270 cases in
all. South Korea, the nation worst hit by the outbreak outside China, has had 5,328 cases. More
than 44,000 people in China have recovered from Covid-19.

We don’t yet know how dangerous the new coronavirus is, and we won’t know until more data
comes in. The mortality rate is around 2% in the epicentre of the outbreak, Hubei province, and
less than that elsewhere. For comparison, seasonal flu typically has a mortality rate below 1%
and is thought to cause about 400,000 deaths each year globally.Bank Recruitment Exam
Boost. Sars had a death rate of more than 10%.Another key unknown is how contagious the
coronavirus is. A crucial difference is that unlike flu, there is no vaccine for the new coronavirus,
which means it is more difficult for vulnerable members of the population – elderly people or
those with existing respiratory or immune problems – to protect themselves. Hand-washing and
avoiding other people if you feel unwell are important. One sensible step is to get the flu vaccine,
which will reduce the burden on health services if the outbreak turns into a wider epidemic.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars) and Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome (Mers) are
both caused by coronaviruses that came from animals. In 2002, Sars spread virtually unchecked
to 37 countries, causing global panic, infecting more than 8,000 people and killing more than
750. Mers appears to be less easily passed from human to human, but has greater lethality,
killing 35% of about 2,500 people who have been infected.

It isn’t a pandemic, in WHO terms, is “the worldwide spread of a disease”. The spread of the
virus outside China is worrying but not an unexpected development. The WHO has declared the
outbreak to be a public health emergency of international concern. The key issues are how
transmissible this new coronavirus is between people, and what proportion become severely ill
and end up in hospital. Often viruses that spread easily tend to have a milder impact.
Generally, the coronavirus appears to be hitting older people hardest, with few cases in children.
21) Mujib Year

The government of Bangladesh has announced the commemoration of 2020-2021 as the Mujib
Year on the occasion of the centennial birth anniversary of the founding leader of the country,
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This year will be celebrated from March 17, 2020 to March 26, 2021.
The father of the nation and the famed leader Bangabandhu was born on March 17, 1920 in
Tungipara village of Gopalganj district of Bangladesh. A year after his 100th birth anniversary,
Bangladesh will celebrate the golden jubilee of independence on March 26, 2021.The
announcement of the year is particularly important as Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was actively
involved in Bangladesh's struggle for independence. That's why Mohammed Hossanein Heikal
said, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman does not belong to Bangladesh alone. He is the harbinger of
freedom for all Bengalis.

The UN General Assembly, UNESCO, has decided to jointly celebrate the Mujib Year with
Bangladesh at the UNESCO 40th General Assembly. The decision was made in the presence of
all UNESCO members on November 12–27 in Paris , held on November 25,2019.

"The struggle now is the struggle for our emancipation;the struggle now is the struggle for our
independence.Joy Bangla!..Since we have given blood, we will give more blood.God-willing, the
people of this country will be liberated .Turn every house into a fort.Face the enemy with
whatever you have."

Following general Yahya Khan’s postponement of the National Assembly session on March 1,
1971, only two days before the session was due to take place, every section of the Bengalis
instantaneously came out onto the streets in massive demonstrations. The Bengalis aspirations
for freedom reached an indomitable height. From March 1 onward Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman was virtually running East Pakistan as its de-facto head of government. On March 7,
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered his historic speech at the Race Course Maidan (Suhrawardy
Udyan), considered to be his roadmap for the country’s independence. In this context, Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman and general Yahya Khan held a series of meetings in Dhaka between March 16
and March 24, none of which brought about any resolution. After the discussions hit a dead end
on March 25, Yahya Khan secretly left Dhaka in the evening. On the night of March 25, the
Pakistan army launched its heinous nine-month long campaign of genocide against the unarmed
Bengalis. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared the Independence of Bangladesh on March 26 at
12:20 AM. Right after declaration, at 1:30AM he was arrested and 3 days later was taken to a
Pakistani prison. On April 10, the provisional revolutionary government of Bangladesh chose
Mujib as its President. The revolutionary government took oath of office on April 17 at a famous
mango garden (Amrakanan) of Baidyanathtala in Meherpur, which is now known as Mujibnagar.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was elected President, Syed Nazrul Islam acting president and Tajuddin
Ahmed the Prime Minister. During August & September of 1971, the Pakistan Junta held a
secret trial and sentenced Bangabandhu to death. On revelation, the freedom loving people of the
world was enraged and demanded the security of the President of Bangladesh. On December 27,
the Bangladesh government sought Mujib's immediate and unconditional release.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of Bangladesh, was
assassinated by a handful of army renegades as part of a larger national and international
political conspiracy hatched by anti-liberation forces in the pre-dawn hours of August 15. They
murdered in cold blood every member of his family except his daughters Sheikh Hasina and
Sheikh Rehana, who by fortune alone were abroad at that time. Bangladesh observes August 15
as the National Mourning Day and remembers the noblest and the greatest Bengali who ever
lived, through his spirit, ideology, courage and love for the people of his nation.

Bangabandhu, will be published before Sheikh Mujib's next birth anniversary. The 9,000-page
compilation will have 14 sections. It will be a selection from 47 files containing 30,000 pages,
party sources said.

Another compilation of writings on the Agartala conspiracy and Bangabandhu will also be
published.

Besides, rare pictures of Bangabandhu will also be collected.

Meanwhile, youth and sports ministry has planned to stage mega sports events, including a
football match among two European teams, two T-20 cricket matches with the participation of
Asian and World stars and an athletics meet to celebrate Mujib Year.

Besides, the foreign ministry has taken initiatives to present the country’s motto ‘Friendship to
all, malice to none’, enunciated by Bangabandhu, across the world. It is also preparing to take an
initiative to move a resolution on Bangabandhu at the United Nations on the occasion of his
100th birth anniversary celebrations.

Naming the years of 2020 and 2021 as Mujib Barsha or Mujib Year, Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina had pledged to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary with people from all
echelons if society through yearlong programmes. The Father of the Nation repaid his debt with
his life. We must now repay him,” the prime minister had said during the first announcement of
this celebration in 2018.
22) The Challenges for the Development of Women Entrepreneurship in Bangladesh

Throughout the word, in any development undertaking of a nation, women’s empowerment is an

inevitable pan of economic development discourse. Since women's empowerment depends on taking part
in various development activities, it is therefore observed that the involvement of women in various
entrepreneurial activities has empowered them in social, economic and cultural fields. In Bangladesh.
women constitute above 10 percent of the total number of entrepreneurs in the country. Many women
have surpassed their male counterparts in the small and cottage industries. especially the handicrafts
sector; while many courageous entrepreneurs have excelled in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
Like other developing nations. Bangladesh has been focusing on the most disadvantaged group in the
society—women.

Constraint and challenges

Women entrepreneurs commonly face many obstacles when building a business. Three common obstacles
identified as the most challenging arc: overcoming bureaucracy, hiring talent and acquiring financing.
Entrepreneurship was once considered a man's domain, but the tide has shifted. Although more women
are becoming entrepreneurs. they often face a set of challenges not typically shared by their male
counterparts. Some of the key challenges faced are.

❑Defying social expectations.

❑Limited access to funding.

❑owning your accomplishments.

❑ Building a support network .

❑Balancing business and family life .

❑ Coping with a fear of failure etc.

Issues of economic problems. family-related concerns. social constraints, and other limitations faced
show that women involved in various small and medium enterprises have to undertake the challenge to
work in a male-dominated society and a competitive, complex business environment.

Policy recommendations

The government's industrial policies stipulate several useful strategies to broaden the Participation of
women entrepreneurs:

❑I Identification of viable women entrepreneurs capable of running independent Businesses.

❑Sinking interest rate for loans for women entrepreneur. Setting up special windows or counters for
women entrepreneurs on commercial banks.

❑Pre- and post-investment counseling for women entrepreneurs.

❑Preferential treatment of credit for women entrepreneurs in thrust sectors.

❑Monitoring of credit disbursement for women entrepreneurs.

❑Maintaining gender-based data on credit disbursement and dissemination of information on credit

opportunities.

❑Creation of a one-stop service at the Ministry of Commerce for women entrepreneurs.

❑Enabling credit for women without collateral.

❑Special market facilities both in the domestic and international arenas.

❑Reserving plots for women entrepreneurs in industrial parks in all divisional towns.

❑Promoting female labour-intensive export-oriented production.

❑Encouraging female entrepreneurs in the export sector.

❑Honoring best female entrepreneurs by awarding the Annual Export Trophy.

❑Organize national and international trade fairs for women entrepreneurs.

❑Fixed quota of stalk for women entrepreneurs at export fairs.

❑Arranging exclusive fairs to promote products manufactured by small and cottage based units.

❑Establishing a separate bank to ensure easy access to industrial credit, equity capital venture capital,
working capital and collateral free loans.

❑ Advocating for reducing custom and excise duties for SME, women entrepreneurs.

❑ Setting up development banks with separate advisory service cell tin women.

❑Tax holidays for women entrepreneurs should be extended further and made more supportive .

❑Value Added Tax (VAT) for women entrepreneurs should be abolished .

Women genuinely love their work, are willing to put in those extra hours to make the business succeed,
and research ways to make the business better. Both government organizations and the private sector have
a major responsibility to promote entrepreneurship development for women. Without that, the
advancement of women will remain a distant reality.
23) Bangladesh Becoming role model in Women's Empowerment

Half of the population of Bangladesh is women and their economic participation has increased
significantly. In fact, national and international policy strategies have also been reflected in the policy to
ensure women’s advancement so that they have control over their lives and play an influential role in
society as decision makers.

The number of working women increased to 18.6 million in 2016-17 from 16.2 million in 2010.
Bangladesh secured the 47th position among 144 countries in 2017 as per The Global Gender Gap
Report, whereas India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Pakistan remain at 108, 109, 111, 124 and 143
positions respectively.

Bangladesh’s achievements in the past decade have been exemplary in many sectors such as in reducing
infant and child mortality, poverty alleviation, increase in women entrepreneurship, education, and
health.

“In the 1990s there were efforts made to expand primary education, achieve gender parity in secondary
schools through special stipend for female students and improve maternal mortality.

“Mobilization of rural women by NGOs in villages to get services and use of women community level
workers to provide door step services in health and family planning played an important role in
improving infant, child and maternal health and income earning opportunities,”she said, adding:
“Mobilization of women was important in strengthening their voice in demanding their rights and
services.”

Executive Director of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Dr Fahmida Khatun said Bangladesh is
improving in the area of women’s empowerment – but to ensure sustainability, more emphasis should
be given in skills development, higher education, technology based education, and capacity building.

To attain the goals initiated by Bangladesh government forwomen’s development, the country has
approved the highest allocation in history for the sector in the budget for 2018-19 fiscal year.
Bangladesh considers women’s participation as a vital issue in the path of women’s empowerment as
one of the main drivers of transforming the country’s status from low-income to middle-income
one.Women’s advancement through access to education, health, labour market, employment, and
social protection have been prioritized, in the FY19 budget which is around 30% of total budget size. The
government also has allocated Tk100 crore for Women Entrepreneurship Fund and Tk 25 crore for
Women Development Special Fund in FY19.

Women's empowerment can only be achieved when we include men and boys. Men are often those
who define and keep women within their boundaries. But when we engage with them they realize that
their wives' empowerment benefits the whole family.

24) The Impact of Media & Technology on Families

The advancements in technology have made a strong impact on almost all areas of our society. It is
making a serious difference in the way kids and parents perceive the world and each other.৭৫ টি
ফ োকোস ফেতে Bank Recruitment Exam Boost গ্রুতে জতেন কতেন। Even when one can highlight how the
reach of technology is breaking barriers between parents and kids, the other side of technology is
almost creating a family divide. Most of the technologies we use today have changed from the
perspective of just a "want' to a 'necessity' in one's life.

In the early days, there was no point of informing the family members if the day's plan got changed. One
has to go directly and inform them if they can't make for the function, movie or dinner out. Now
technology is offering a good assistance to coordinate the change of plans with just a message or call.
Kids can let their parents know if they are staying late at school for some extra class without getting
them worried.

The location tracking facility is now of great help to reach the family in case of any trouble. If kids come
across some mishap during their way, the location tracking facility helps parents to reach them as soon
as possible. This is also giving kids a lot of confidence to travel around and do things independently
without the fear of being alone. Technology is helping kids to grow up as independent persons without
depending on parents for each and everything.

The new messaging apps have options to set up family groups where one can interact with all members
of their family despite where they are. Even the distant family is now more connected with social media
groups rather than just interacting only at some events or birthday or marriage functions.Bank

The safety within home with modern security systems has added more peace within families. The
emergency alarms as well as the quick response options help to bring the police or the correspondent
authority to be at the place at the time of a robbery or a fire. Having a feeling that the people and home
belongings are safe gives you a more peaceful sleep.

Most of the parents will be busy with their work schedules and find it difficult to male visit to the school.
The parents engaging apps have come to the rescue as they can virtually be present in school during all
the activities of their child in campus. They can maintain a good relationship with teachers through
communication apps and schoo portals and learn more about how their child progresses in schools.
Some parents are too protective about their children and won't allow them to stay out of their reach.
However, with video call options, a person can virtually be present near you when talking. Even if it
demands to stay abroad or in some distant places during your career, one can still be in close touch with
the family through daily video conversations.

Now it is time to know about the negative results of today's technology which happens just because of
the way we use them. Here are a few of them:

The situation prevailing currently in almost every household- If there are four members, each of them
will have a personal screen with which they spend most of the time. When parents and children come
back after office and school at the end of the day, it is important to interact with each other. It helps
maintain a personal bond and fosters empathy for the apprehensions of the other.

It is important to share some quality time with your family. Today's reality is that even when parents
pretend to play with children or share some family moments, the emails or chatting is taking half of their
attention. It is important to switch of your devices for at least an hour or two and spend some quality
time together. The habit of bringing work home is one of the main reasons for many failing relationships
as this compromises time for intimacy.

Today the mode of communication has drastically changed from direct face to face communication to
merely chatting. This seriously affects children as they will have poor face to face interaction skills when
they grow up As they spend most of the time with screens, people will have only limited experience of
proper interaction with humans which can lead to a shrink in the level of confidence. This can severely
affect the professional performance of a child who is brought up in such mechanical environment. Bank

It is good to share at least a meal together to have a good bonding with family members. The morning
breakfast is used to watching everyone rush to make it in time for school and work. The dinner time too
is interrupted by technology with people choosing to eat as and when they finish of chatting or working.
Even if they have dinner at the same time, everybody will be giving their half focus on their personal
screens.
