English presentation : the bearskin

Dia 1 :
hello, our presentation is about the « bearskin ». The
bearskin is the hat that the royal guards of England are
wearing.

Dia 2 :
first we are going to present the features of this
emblematic hat.
Then we are going to talk about the scandal about it.
After that, about the reason why the British army wears
this hat.
And why it is so British.
And finally, why did we choose this topic for our
presentation.

Dia 3: :
So the Bearskin is 46cm tall and weighs 7kg, that is very
heavy for their head.
The hat is made of canadian bears pelt. One hat like this
needs a whole bear. So it needs much of this pelt but it at
least it last for decades.

Dia 4 :
Like julie just said, the hat is made of the pelt of canadian
black bears. That made the british animal rights folk very
unhappy. And because of this scandal, the british
company that makes them is now a closely guarded
secret that only the royal family knows. But they tried to
found a new material to make this but nothing was so
strong than the pelt of this bears, that’s why they
continue to use it.

Dia 5 :
The reason that they wear it, is because it makes them
very much taller and intimidating. Because this army
were hand-to-hand fighting they needed to be more
menacing.

Dia 6 :
so how can we tell that it is so british ? Look, the origin of
this hat comes from the battle of Waterloo.
Wellington’s army fought against the french imperial
and won. To honour their victory they choose to wear
this kind of hats. They redesigned their uniforms and
replaced their peaked cap to incorporate the bearskin.
And this tradition continue now to this day.

Dia 7 :
we choose this topic because we think that these hats are
really fascinating and we never really knew why the
british guards wear them. That’s why we tought it
would be fun to talk about them for this assignement.

Dia 8 :
Thanku for listening, we hope you all learned something
like we did.
