IIM Sambalpur Hosts ‘Handloom Expo 2023’ to Promote and Empower

Weavers of Odisha

October 25th, 2023, Sambalpur: IIM Sambalpur, one of India's premier


management institutions, hosted the 5-day ‘Tana-Bana District Handloom
Expo-2023’ at their campus. Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of
Textiles, Government of India and Weavers' Service Centre, Bhubaneswar, the
event aims to promote indigenous handloom products through digital media
across the country and develop markets for weavers at the national level.

Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur, graced the occasion as the
Chief Guest of the event and stated, "The main purpose of the event is to
popularise handlooms and khadi and to promote the concept vocal for local.
IIM Sambalpur will support and empower the weavers and their indigenous art
work director said.

Similarly Ministry of textile (Govt. of India) Odisha state’s Deputy Director


Vikash Kumar said that, the weaver will be benefitted with various handloom
schemes during this event. The effort of department and institute will go long
way in the promotion of handloom sector Deputy Director Vikash Kumar said.

The event featured more than 25 stalls showcasing a wide range of handloom
products. This included exquisite sarees, bedsheets, dress materials, table
runners, umbrellas, and various other fabric-based products crafted through
traditional handloom techniques of Odisha.
