Generic file formats are specific file

types that can be opened in a
suitable software on any platform
and device.

Generic file formats allow you to

reopened in different applications
and softwares later on.

Common generic file format types:

.txt - Allows text documents to be
opened in any word processor
.csv - Sorts data from tables in text
format
.rtf - Saves some formatting within text

are:
.mp4 - Cannot be opened in

4 applications such as word, excel,

powerpoint etc.
.gif - Cannot be opened in applications
such as word, excel, powerpoint.
