the challenges that it has encountered in the Philippines.

World Health Organization (WHO)

World Health Organization (WHO) is the United Nations system's health directing and
communicating authority and it was established in 1948. Its responsibility is to provide global
health leadership, influence the health research program, establish guidelines and values,
address substantial proof policy options, help countries with technical assistance, observing and
evaluate health trends. WHO's membership consists of 193 countries along with two associate
members. Every year, they gather in Geneva for the World Health Assembly to make policy and
authorize the Organization's budget. Over 8000 public health care workers all over the world
work for WHO in 147 offices located, six regional offices, and the head office in Geneva,
Switzerland, including doctors, epidemiologists, scientists, managers, administration staff, and
other experts in the field.

WHO's main objective is for all people to achieve the highest possible level of well-being.
According to the WHO Constitution, health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social
well-being, not just the nonappearance of illness or disability. WHO also proposes conferences,
agreements, and regulations, as well as making guidelines on international disease
nomenclature, death causes and public health practices. It creates, helps to establish, and
strengthen international food and biological, pharmaceutical, and similar standards. For the
past few years, the Philippines has experienced outstanding economic and social development,
with the Philippines recording the highest growth rate among emerging Asian economies in
2016. Rapid economic growth and strengthening national capacity have helped Filipinos live
longer and healthier lives. Despite significant progress, health achievements have not been
consistent, and improvements are needed. The Philippines-WHO Country Cooperation Strategy
2017-2022 outlines how WHO will work collaboratively with the Philippines over the next six
years to accomplish the vision of the Philippine Health Agenda 2016-2022 as a great
opportunity towards the health-related Sustainable development goals.
