Essay on Mental Health

Mental Health has become a hot topic nowadays and people are more encouraged to
seek help when their mental well-being is affected.
Importance of the mental health awareness lies in the fact that most of the disorders are
preventable. Even a change in certain habits can make a huge impact.
If someone wants to improve their mental well-being, simple research on the internet
can help. There are plenty of articles with recommended coping mechanisms and
techniques that can help. The most common advice of the experts is to socialize more
and connect with people. Good relationships can give and build a sense of belonging.
Another suggestion is to stay physically active and set some goals and challenges.
Experts claim that this can cause chemical changes in the brain that can positively
impact one's mood. As an important factor in maintaining and improving mental health
is learning new skills such as a new language or practical skills like cooking, DIY
projects, learning to paint, six a bike and similar. Some researches show that these
activities can improve self-esteem and build a sense of purpose.
All the above recommendations are just fragments of the free content that we can find
on the internet. If a person feels that they can't cope with the issues they are facing
alone and they require additional support, they can contact one of the numerous
organisations that offer free help and counselling.
The constant presence of the mental health topic in the media helped in recognising it's
importance. In my opinion, this topic is still one of the biggest taboos. Therefore, often
individual that struggles with their mental well-being will require a supportive
environment such as family and friends, to be able to overcome the stigma of mental
illnesses. For this reason, discussing openly and in a supportive way about the mental
well-being could raise awareness and reduce stigma in order to encourage people to
seek help when it becomes necessary.
