Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund

Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) is a non-profit organization in Pakistan that operates on the
public-private partnership model. PPAF aims to advance a practical strategy for reducing poverty in
Pakistan. Leading bilateral, international, and multilateral business organizations, including the World
Bank, support PPAF's efforts to reduce poverty by contributing money and resources to encourage
grassroots development. This 'Fund' primarily assists by giving extremely tiny loans known as
microfinance loans to extremely low-income households in an effort to help them escape poverty.

PPAF is built on five core values that are:

 Inclusion: recognizing different diversities that include women, children, elderly, people with
disabilities, religious minorities, and indigenous groups.
 Participation: increasing community input through different interventions and policies.
 Accountability: consisting of a legal framework, organizational structure, and procedures.
 Transparency: providing clear evidence of reporting and financial transactions.
 Stewardship: responsible caretakers and management.

PPAF work includes a presence in 147 districts across the nation and alliances with 130 organizations,
PPAF started strategic development at the local level, giving the most priority to the areas facing the
worst circumstances so that everyone in the community may work together to create a safe future.
Building and assisting value-based institutions of, for, and by the people has been the institution's long-
term strategic goal as it is crucial to providing the people a voice and empowering them.

PPAF Projects

 PROGRAMME FOR POVERTY REDUCTION (PPR)

The multi-sectoral and integrated programme contributed to enhancing livelihoods through
enabling access to health and education and improved productive infrastructure in Pakistan’s
hard-to-reach areas. The programme’s final evaluation results have indicated that 72% of the
beneficiaries who received productive assets are contributing to household income and that 42%
of the target beneficiaries receiving assets have their income increased by 32%.
It also created a pathway for sustainable livelihoods by introducing olive culture. This innovative
component of the programme introducing and strengthening the vertical horizontal linkages for
the olive value chain in both provinces will help farmers and related market actors benefit from
diversified sources of income in the years to come.

 LIVELIHOOD SUPPORT AND PROMOTION OF SMALL COMMUNITY

INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAMME (LACIP)
The Livelihood Support and Promotion of Small Community Infrastructure Project (LACIP),
financed through GoP by KfW funding, is an integrated poverty reduction programme
implemented to improve the living conditions and quality of life of the poor in 8 districts of
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Following the satisfactory performance under LACIP-I, the second phase, LACIP-II, commenced
with the overall objective of contributing to the betterment of the living conditions of poor people
and stabilization of under-served areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The programme targets
institutional development, community physical infrastructure livelihood and enterprise
development were successfully achieved in June 2021.

 NATIONAL POVERTY GRADUATION PROGRAMME (NPGP)

The National Poverty Graduation Programme (NPGP) is supported by the International Fund for
Agriculture Development (IFAD) and the Government of Pakistan (GoP). This programme,
initiated in all provinces, aims to assist the poor and ultra-poor in graduating out of poverty on a
sustainable basis while simultaneously improving their overall food security, nutritional status,
and resilience to climate change. The approach combines three distinct elements: social
mobilisation, livelihood development, and financial inclusion.

 REVITALISING YOUTH ENTERPRISE (RYE)

After successfully completing the first phase of the Revitalising Youth Enterprise (RYE) Project
in Balochistan where 300 youth received technical and vocational training to increase their
employability and entrepreneurship capacity, PPAF and the Citi Foundation have continued this
partnership to extend this support in Sindh and Punjab.
