VFD Trainer Guide

ABB ACH550 Training Cart:

Concept:

Students will be able to Start Up and Commission variable frequency drives

with “field-like” situations. Each trainer has one potentiometer to simulate an
analog input and two toggle switches to simulate digital inputs. Two terminal
blocks with VFD terminal numbers and names are used to simulate field
wiring of control circuits. Selected relay output terminals are provide with
24VDC lights to simulate a running status and fault alarm.

Simplified Training

The cover of the VFD will not need to be removed for training simulations as all
control terminals are extended to the trainer panel. The trainers will follow the ABB
“HVAC-Default” macro for all wiring circuits for simplest wiring configurations.
However the macro programed into the VFD must be “Eclipse”. This is
accomplished by the internal control wring of the VFD.

Potentiometer:

Left Termial = AGND 3, Center Termial = AI1 2, Right Termial =+10V 4

Lights: 24VDC porarity insensitive, Right Termial = +24V 10, Left Termial = GND 11
