Topic: Addressing the Issue of Gender-Based Violence in the Workplace and


Promoting Efforts Towards Prevention, Response, and Support for Survivors

The government of Argentina recognizes that gender-based violence in the


workplace has far-reaching social, economic, and psychological implications,
affecting the dignity and well-being of its citizens. We strive to make it our goal to
eliminate gender-based work violence. Around the world 1 in 3 women experience
some sort of gender-based violence, many from people they know and trust. As all
the countries come together, Argentina supports women and wants to achieve the
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5: Gender
Equality.

Argentina has implemented many laws and regulations to help support women in
the workplace, including Law 27533, which provides that any gender-based action
or omission based on an unequal relationship of power, which directly or indirectly
affects a woman’s life; freedom; dignity; physical, psychological, sexual, or
economic well-being; political participation; or personal safety constitutes violence
against women. This supports women in many aspects and helps them grow into
strong independent women.

However, many women don’t know that what they are experiencing is a crime.
They go about it every day, not realizing that the injustice they are facing can be
reported and the person doing it can face legal charges. The best way to bring
awareness to this is by educating young women about gender base violence, how it
happens in workplaces, and what they can do to help stand up for themselves.
Develop educational programs and awareness campaigns to promote respectful
workplace behavior and gender equality. Argentina has initiated programs aimed at
raising awareness among both employers and employees about the consequences
of workplace gender-based violence and how to prevent it.
