Exam Speaking Test | Units 1–2

TEACHER’S NOTES

Task 1
Read these tips to the class:
• You need to speak for 2 minutes.
• Give full answers – don’t just use single word answers like yes or no.
• Give reasons or examples.

Tell students that they will ask and answer questions in pairs. Allocate students A or B.
A should ask B questions first.
Allow students 2−3 minutes to ask each other the questions. Then move on to Task 2.

Task 2
Read these tips to the class:
• You need to talk about the photo for 1 minute.
• Say what you see in the picture.
• Use phrases to give you time to think such as: Let me see ..., Well ... .

Give students time (20 seconds) to look at their pictures and the prompts. Then ask each
student to describe their photograph for 1 minute.
Use the questions below as back-up prompts if necessary.

Student A:
• What does the photo show?
• Is this a girl’s bedroom or a boy’s bedroom? How do you know?
• How many bookshelves are there? Where are they?
• Is the room tidy or messy?
• What colour is the rug? What colour are the walls?

Student B:
• What does the photo show?
• Is the room light or dark? Why?
• What is in front of / behind the sofa?
• Where is the TV?
• Are there any books in the room? Where are they?

For marking scale, go to a separate file.
