The Teaching Profession

ASSIGNMENT NO. 3

1.) List 5 things about you, that if taken from you, you would not be the same person you are
today and explain why.
- My parents, childhood friends, volleyball, education, and experiences. These five things hone
my personality, characteristics and as an individual. If those were taken from me I probably
don't have an idea what I am today. Since they served as a guide on how I was built, those are
the master of my sculpture.
2.)Explain what the picture below means in terms of person’s right to education. Differentiate
equality from equity.

- Equity for me is the state of having fair treatment in every individual. If the other one can ride a
bus all people have the right to ride a bus too no matter what your gender, race, color, you will
receive fair treatment. It means that, if there's an equity all people can afford education even if
someone have physical impairment and mental impairment he or she have the right to
education . While on the other hand Equality is the opposite of Equity. For me it is the state of
being unfair, if you are dark you will experience discrimination. If you have mental and physical
disabilities you will be treated differently from those who are normal.
3.) Write down your thoughts and impressions regarding the individual or groups of individuals
in the following pictures below.
A.)

- In this illustration I can clearly see a different races without barriers. They differ in color, height,
and even in clothings but they smile joyfully which means they are comfortable with each other.
B.)

- This image shows two different angle of views with the same man. He looks like a model of
clothing.
C.)

- A child who stares on nothing, maybe he thinks something that make him stunned.
D.)

- A family picture with different emotions. I can see happy one, sad, and maybe anxious.
E.)

- A guy who's about to be imprison but still happy.

F.)

- A football player who has an anxious face.

G.)

- Pope Benedict the XVI wearing red hat and joyfully staring on something.
H.)

- A guy laying on a grassy ground having an earphones maybe resting from a long hiking or
adventure.
Elaborate each statement above by giving examples through classroom scenarios that
manifest multicultural education.
1.) Learners of English as a second language and speakers of English as a first language.
- Students which English is the second language, they differ in terms of grammar construction
compared with English is the first language. It sets barrier between the two. The reason for this
is that english language varries depends on culture. For example a Fiilipino student and a
American transferee, the transferee may have expressions that can't process by the Filipino
student since Americans have differents idioms which is hard for Filipinos to understand.

2) Members of under-represented ethnic groups and members of well-represented groups.

- Under-represented group refers to groups who have been denied access and/or suffered past
institutional discrimination. While well-represented group are the people with good and
sufficient representation those who are well known. For example, in manila most of the students
are manilenyo, in a classroom with 40 students 1 of them is considered as Badjao and the rest
are manilenyo so the Bajao is the under-represented group and the manilenyo ang the well-
represented group.
3.)Students who are physically challenged and those who are not.
- It refers to those students who have physical disabilities for example an absence of a limb that
hinders their everyday life, that is why they are called students who are physically challenged.
And those who are not are the students that can play, run, walk, jump and perform physical
movements. Physical disability affects students capability on doing something that sets barrier
between normal students. For example in a classroom a student with one foot can't stand easily
Infront of the class to discuss his or her idea while normal students can walk smoothly Infront of
classmates without difficulties.
4.)Males and females.
- Males and females has many differences interms of behaviours, clothings, and ideas. Males
tend to be more physically active that females. Commonly we can see from the classroom that
males even it's hot, they keep on talking, laughing, teasing each other and playing on
something while females choose to stay seated while using their portable fan or buri fan. Not all
classrooms have this kind of scenarios but it is one of the things I have noticed when I was in
highschool.
5.)Students who live in poverty and those who do not.
- Students who live in poverty are more likely than those who do not to encounter a lack of
resources that prevent them from attending lessons conveniently. For example a grade 2 pupil
go to school, walk 1.5 kilometers and his breakfast is only one piece of small bread paired with
hot coffee. When he arrived at his school and take a seat for the lesson, after an hour he felt
hunger and after an hour he felt drowsyness. While his classmates who live in a rich family, his
classmates breakfast are big spacial breads and branded milks and he go to school riding a car
and his always active because he has a decent meal for the day. Imagine how the state of living
affects the learning of an individual.

6.)Students who have or have not been successful in school.

- Successful students attend classes on a regular basis. They can catch up lessons easier, always
participating in the class since they can understand the topic, they always read and study, they
are responsible students who arrived at school on time, and has no failing grades. Those
students have not been successful in school are the opposite one. They are lazy, always late,
sleepy, irresponsible, and has failing grades. Those successful students in school always recites
in class while those are not doesn't have an idea on the topic since they don't want to think
about it.
