Dear Mr Threadgold,

I am writing to discuss an Australian painting that I recently viewed, drawn from the She Oak and
Sunlight Excursion at the National Gallery of Victoria at Federation Square. The title of the artwork is
picnic point, near Brighton and it was created by the artist John Mather in 1886. It was painted with
oil on canvas. The size of the work is 47.5 cm by 84 cm.

The painting includes a Beach with people on it, trees and bushes, dead branches, waves, clouds,
mountains with sand and grass and dry dead grass. Some of the main features are the water and the
people in the foreground. The water pops out against the monotoned green and grey colours. It
looks like some people decided to go to the beach since the weather was sunny and it was a nice day
to go for a swim. I think it might have been summer. The piece of artwork might have been made to
show what people wore and dressed in
