4. Phantom calibration
• Insert the US-phantom adjustment tool into the
transceiver holder and plug the cable to the
connector VGX9 (red).

• Plug in the connectors of the US-unit (SD 360)

VGX8 (blue).

• Move the microphone holder into locating position

• Bring the transceiver holder in the direction of the
microphone holder and press the pushbutton to
initialize the US-option.

Note
The green LED at the reference transmitter

must be lit (US-option o.k.)

• Fix the F2-phantom on the therapy head.

• Start US-service tool version 1.0.

• Select menu "Calibration".
• Measure the actual room temperature in the microphone holder
area.
• Write temperature data into the screen "actual temperature".
• Change to main menu.
• Start localizing and stop after a new seconds.
• Select menu "Data".
• Select menu "Check distance".
• Watch the values in the menu "Check distance".

Distance RefMar TransMar

1 0.1400 0.0800
2 0.1400 0.1077 values ± 0.0005
3 0.1400 0.1077

If not o.k., change temperature up or down for fine adjustment so that the values are in range.
• Select menu ”F2 balance”.

• Press ”ESC” to cancel menu point.

• Move the phantom adjustment tool to touch the peak of the F2–phantom and hold the US–transceiver holder in
the direction of the microphone holder.

• Press the switch at the US–transceiver holder.

The green LED and both yellow LED´s at the reference transmitter must be lit.

• if green LED is blinkimg connection between SD 360 and ULS 132 is not O.K.
• Press the switch a second time (the data will be stored and displayed in the screen ”F2 balance”).

LED must be off.

• Repeat the above steps 10 times, in the normal US–working area.

That means, approximately an angle of 20°.

Note
The phantom calibration must be finished in the menu "F2 balance" with the "ESC" pushbutton. The calibration
accepted if the values (µ) for X,Y,Z are o.k.

5. Check the US-positioning

• Remove the adjustment tool from the US-
transceiver holder and insert the US-transceiver.
• Remove the F2-phantom from the therapy head.
• Couple BV25 and ESWL carriage and move the
table in therapy position.
• Close the table cut with a plate or equivalent and
place the US-phantom on the table.
(The phantom must be filled with normal water
35°C to 45°C).

• Localize the top of the US–phantom (kidney

stone dummy), mark the top and send the

position data with pushing to the US–

controller.
• Fix the US–positioning transmitter at the
accessory rail by using the transmitter holder.
• Press the switch at the US–transceiver holder.

• Move the phantom with the use of the control X-ray image
panel in the F2 postion (X,Y,Z=0), as shown at
the control desk.
area of tolerance
• Check with x-ray in PA and CC position that the
top of the phantom is in the F2 position ultrasound phantom
(tolerance ± 3 mm)

Cx
Note

B
D
The rather large tolerance value is caused by
propagation time deviations, depending on the water
temperature and the coupling angle of the transducer
with respect to the phantom pot.
The failure of the location system itself is by far less
than ± 3 mm. The standart deviation will be checked B
for acceptance by the software during the phantom
calibration.
Fig.: X-ray image

Example:
The demanded tolerance is ±3mm (circle with 6mm diameter (D).
The real distance between the inner tips of the cross wires is 8mm (A).
The measured distance on the monitor (inner tips of the cross) is 18mm (B).
The scale (C) = B/A = 18mm/8mm = 2.25
The dimeter of the measured circle (toleance) on the monitor
= CxD = 2.25x6mm = 13.5mm

If not o.k. repeat the positioning check a few

times, therefore make sure that the US-transducer
touches the phantom pot with an angle of 90°.

• In case of insufficient results, insert the US- 90_

phantom adjustment tool into the transducer
holder and tough the peak of the F2-phantom.
• Carry out a locating
• Move the cursor of the SD 360 to position X = 0±2
and Y = 720±2 (Transducer CA3540). Send the transduc
data to the user panel and check the values in
