ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: A WAR BETWEEN HUMANS AND

MACHINES

A very good morning/afternoon to the respected chair and my fellow delegates.

My name is Altamash Mansuri and I am from Kes. Shri. Jayantilal H. Patel Law
College along with my team mate Aditya Singh from the same institution. Our
Team code is KGS005 and my speaker code is No. 9. Our team would speak on
the topic of Artificial Intelligence i.e. AI and whether it is a war between
humans and machines. To which I argue it is not a war.
I would also go as far as to say that AI is not an enemy but surely an ally. But
first, what is AI? Although there is no proper universally accepted definition of
AI due to the complexity of the tool itself, AI can be summarised as the
stimulation of human intelligence. It would include a number of features like
speech recognition, learning, planning and problem solving. AI is of two types
that is applied AI like alexa and Generalised AI like Robots. They would learn
through 3 different methods, Unsupervised learning in which model would be
trained by an unlabelled dataset and allowed to act without supervision. An
example would be categorizing different animals in a photo into a group of
animals. The second form of learning would be supervised that is under
supervision so as to make predictions for future. The third one being
reinforcement method which involves a punishment reward approach. It would
also include Natural Language Processing like in the case of email filters smart
assistants, search results, predictive text, language translation, data and text
analytics. It would also include the concepts of deep learning using binary code,
decision tree algorithm for predictions, descriptive analysis used to find
correlations between different groups of data, infographic representation of
terminologies that is through graphs. Today’s progress of AI does stimulate the
imagination. Self-driving cars have been driving on the public road for years,
robots are working to ease our lives for the better. It was evident that with the
dreams, nightmares grow too. That there seems a certain possibility that AI will
turn into a super intelligent being of existence thus destroying the society and
humans. I would like to add that inventions are done in the hands of human with
a motive and intent to further the interest of humanity itself. That the possibility
of a super intelligent AI would destroy the earth would become a form of a
cautionary tale preventing us from furthering ourselves towards development of
such malicious AI.
I have gathered information from openai. Which is a website through which one
can get answers through AI. I had asked what AI is to which it says that:”
Artificial intelligence has the potential to change our world in so many ways,
from making our lives easier to improving our quality of life. And while there
are still many questions about how AI can be used responsibly, it's clear that it
could have a dramatic impact on our lives if we're not careful.

The first tool for artificial intelligence was developed in the 1950s, but it wasn't
until the 1980s that researchers started using it to solve problems like translation
and translation learning. Since then, AI has become more and more
sophisticated—and now companies are using it in their products and services
every day. For example: Google uses AI to help you find restaurants nearby
when you search for restaurants on Google Maps; Amazon uses AI to suggest
books based on your preferences”. In the Economic and Social Committee, an
advisory institution of the European Union, a plea is made for a Human-in-
command approach to artificial intelligence, in which machines stay machines
and humans will at all times keep control over these machines. Furthermore, it
was called upon an open letter to prohibit “Killer Robots” signed by 100
robotics and artificial intelligence companies like tesla and google. To assume
that AI would Restructure itself into a superior intelligent form of existence
would be irrational as there is a gap between Knowledge systems and Data
Systems. As major Gaurav Arya[retd.] said the data derived through certain
means by the army or any other specialised agency is raw in nature. Only when
it comes to the hands of humans that is the agency does it derive its true
meaning that is knowledge system aiding the humans in their endeavours. “No
Free Lunch Theorem” is a concept which means that there is no algorithm that
will outperform all others for all problems – meaning
we need a new AI algorithm tailored for each new problem if we want the most
effective intelligence
From anti-missile defence technology, to mining robots which are used to
protect and prevent the lives of humans from any unforeseen danger, to our
mobile phones are smart watches, AI has aided humanity in its development and
increased it 10 folds. Helping the world by providing task expedition, improved
coordination and a sense of leisure to humans so that they can protect the earth
and focus on more creative aspects of life wherein only human mind can
interfere.
An estimated net worth of 387.45 to 1394.30 billion dollars, AI is a source of
economic, social as well as cultural development as well as increasing
productivity and employment in the sector in turn increasing the standard of
living.
In conclusion, I would like to put forward my opinion on AI that it is a tool, A
weapon. In the hands of mafia, it could be a weapon of mass destruction. But in
the hands of the military, it is symbol of security, safety and peace.
AI too is a tool and not a war enemy. Keeping, rational optimism in mind, it
will aid and also be a prominent cause of the development of human
civilization.
