Period Poverty
Over 7 million women in Ghana menstruate. Out of this number, 1 in 5 girls between the

ages 15 - 19 are excluded from school, social and home activities during their period. 9 out

of 10 girls skip school entirely during their periods because of a lack of period management

materials and facilities.


The reality
Millions of girls and women get the periods monthly, for some, it is an

inconvenience, for others it is much more.

No girl should ever be forced to miss school or, tragically, lose their life due to

something as natural as their period – a fundamental part of humanity's

continuity.

The Poka Foundation is on a mission to reduce the number of women whose lives are

disrupted by their period and make periods a simple part of a woman’s day as

opposed to a looming burden to overcome monthly. The foundation through

poverty across African communities.
