The objective of this research was to find out the students’ ability in identifying
compound sentence. In order to achieve the objective of the research, the researcher
used quantitative method. The population of this research was the third semester
students of English Department of UKI Toraja consist of 163 students divided into 6
classes. Because the population was large, so the researcher used cluster sampling or
took 1 class namely class F. The total students in the class were 29 students. The
researcher used written test to find out the result of the research about the students’
ability in identifying compound sentence (A study on the third semester students of
English Department FKIP UKI Toraja).
The analysis of the data showed that the students’ ability in identifying compound
sentence ( A study on the third semester students of English Department FKIP UKI
Toraja) got classification into poor category. The students’ mean score in written test
was 53.8.
Based on the result above, the researcher concluded that the students’ ability in
identifying compound sentence (A study on the third semester students of English
Department FKIP UKI Toraj) was poor category.

Kalimat Majemuk Oleh Mahasiswa Semester Tiga Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Fkip Uki
Toraja. Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Uki Toraja. (di bimbing oleh Roni
La’biran, S.Pd, M.Pd dan Normalia Sirande, S.S, M.Pd).
Objek dari penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan dalam
mengidentifikasi kalimat majemuk. Untuk mencapai penelitian ini, penulis
menggunakan kuantitatif. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester tiga
jurusan bahasa inggris uki toraja yang terdiri dari 163 mahasiswa dibagi ke dalam
enam kelas. Karena jumlah populasi cukup banyak maka penulis menggunakan
cluster sampling atau mengambil satu kelas yaitu kalas F. total dari semua mahasiswa
kelas F adalah dua puluh Sembilan mahasiswa. Penulis menggunakan tes tertulis
untuk mencari tahu hasil penelitian. Hal tersebut digunakan untuk mengetahui
kemampuan siswa kelas F dalam mengidentifikasi kalimat majemuk.
Hasil analisa dari data menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan mahasiswa dalam
mengidentifikasi kalimat majemuk oleh mahasiswa semester tiga jurusan bahasa
inggris Fkip Uki Toraja diklasifikasikan dalam kategori kurang bagus. Nilai rata-rata
mahasiswa pada tes tertulis adalah 53.8.
Berdasarkan hasil analisa di atas, disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan mahasiswa
dalam mengidentifikas kalimat majemuk oleh mahasiswa semester tiga jurusan
Bahasa Inggris Fkip Uki Toraja adalah kurang.
