Read the following extract and answer the following questions:
Some of the social reformers were moved by the plight of the lower castes. Raja
Rammohun Roy and the Prarthana Samaj worked hard to promote caste
equality. In Bombay, an organisation called the Paramhans Mandali called for
the abolition of caste system. Many of these reformers belonged to the upper
castes and often showed their opposition to the caste system by breaking caste
rules on sharing food and interacting with people from lower castes. In addition
to these groups, many Christian missionaries set up schools for children of
tribals and people belonging to lower castes all over the country to help raise
their status

In the second half of the 19th century many people from lower castes also
began to launch movements against discrimination based on caste. They worked
hard to fight for equality and justice for their communities. Let's take a look at
some important social reformers who were against the splitting of Indian society
along caste lines.
