Facebook

A platform/service that allows users to create free profiles and connect with friends,
coworkers, and strangers online. It enables users to share images, music, movies, and articles,
as well as their own views and opinions, with as many people as they choose.

Intended users of Facebook

Individual Users:

• Personal Profiles: Individuals use Facebook to connect with friends, family, and
acquaintances. They share updates, photos, videos, and engage in conversations.

Businesses and Brands:

•Business Pages: Organizations create Facebook pages to establish an online presence,

engage with customers, share updates, and run advertising campaigns.

Content Creators:

•Creators Studio: Facebook provides tools and features for content creators, including video
creators, bloggers, and influencers, to share and monetize their content.

Advertisers:

•Facebook Ads Manager: Advertisers use Facebook to create and manage advertising
campaigns, targeting specific demographics and interests.

Educators and Trainers:

•Facebook Groups or Pages: Educators can create groups or pages to connect with students,
share resources, and facilitate discussions.

Privacy Concerns

•Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are the most often and most widely used social-media sites,
especially in Indonesia. The number of social-media users is increasing every year,
accompanied by increased risks. One of those risks is to the security and privacy of users, as
shown by the user-data leak experienced by Facebook in 2018. These issues led the authors to
conduct research relating to the influence of privacy concerns, trust, and user awareness on the
readiness to share personal information via social-media sites.
•Individuals’ identities and private information have sometimes been compromised without their
permission. In response to these growing privacy concerns, some pressure groups and
government agencies have increasingly asserted the users’ right to privacy and to be able to
control their personal data.

Moral implications of Facebook

•The irresponsible use of social media has implications for privacy and can result in real and
virtual security breaches. The usage of social media can also lead to a loss of privacy because
many users are obliged to share information that they would not otherwise divulge.

Overall impact on interpersonal relationships of Facebook

•Online interaction has a negative effect on the quality of communication. The underlying reason
for this is that the non-verbal communication that takes place during interpersonal
communication is left out when people interact through social media.

• Decreases quality time and relationship satisfaction; Excessive social media use can
negatively impact quality time, create conflict, and reduce relationship satisfaction — whether
the relationship is romantic or not.
