Article review guideline

The purpose of this writing exercise is to learn and to write an evaluative review of a journal
article. The topic or theme of the article should fall within the scope of Marketing
Management. The article should be in a refereed journal or high quality conference
proceedings. Since there is so much information on the web, you must be careful about the
reputation of the source.

Please include the following categories in your article review.


Full Bibliographic Reference

 State the full bibliographic reference for the article you are reviewing (authors, title,
journal name, volume, issue, year, page numbers, etc.) Important: this is not the
‘Bibliography’ or ‘References’ listed at the end of the article, rather the citation of the
article itself!
1. Write an introduction paragraph that informs the reader that you intend to review an article
or other document. Tell the reader the reason why you selected that particular article to
review.
2. Make an effort to cover the following points. It may require more than one paragraph to
cover them.
o State the general and specific objective of the article. What was the main theme of
the article?
o What new ideas or information were communicated in the article?
3. Writing about the research methodology and results is critical to your review. These
questions are to hone your skills in critical thinking about research methodology.
o What methods did the authors use to reach conclusions?
o How were the data collected and analyzed?
o Who were the subjects?
 Briefly describe the research methodology.
 What were the basic results or findings from the research?
4. Write the strengths and weaknesses of the article in separate paragraphs. Give your
reasons for your opinions.
o Were the findings important to a reader?
o Were the conclusions valid? Do you agree with the conclusions?
5. Write a conclusion paragraph that briefly informs the reader what you wrote about in your
review and your overall findings.
6. Carefully proofread your work before submitting .

a. Your written review will be approximately 2 - 3 pages.


b. Use 1.5 line spacing and 12 font size New Romans with justify the text.
c. Write the citation of the article in APA (American Psychological Association) format.
