Composition:
The topics shall be decided by students, and the length is approximately one and 1/3 pages double space, 12
font. Students should write something interesting, such as interesting experience in China or elsewhere,
comparing different culture and habits in China and Canada, or something touching (moving). You can also
discuss an issue such as the problem of pollution, the gap between rich and poor, the difference between
living in cities and countryside or any other issues that interest you by interviewing a native speaker of
Chinese, in which case you have to record your discussion and submit it along with your written
composition.

The composition shall be handed in the first class after coming back from the Christmas vacation. It can
potentially be used for annual Chinese Speech Contest, which takes place on the third Saturday of March.
Three students shall be chosen to participate in the Speech Contest. The selection criteria
are: students’ pronunciation and the content of the speech. According to the regulation of the Speech
Contest, the speech can be corrected by a Chinese friend or instructor.

You have to follow the schedule. I will not repeat the schedule in class.
You have to keep weekly tests, individual presentations and
g.p. group presentations, quizzes and composition in case there is a discrepancy between your record and
my record.

大考 Final:
口试 (oral exam):40% 每个学生差不多 10 分钟
口试题目:10 minutes for each student. Each student has to answer 5 of the following
questions, 2 minutes for each question.
