The Vessel
The Vessel
The structure known as "The Vessel" in New York City is called so because of its
resemblance to a vessel or a container. The name reflects its unique and
innovative architectural design, which features a honeycomb-like structure
composed of a network of staircases, platforms, and walkways that are
interconnected and spiraling upwards. This design creates a vessel-like shape
with an open interior.

LOCATION: Manhattan, New York City

WHEN WAS IT BUILT: Construction began in April 2017, with the pieces being
manufactured in Italy and shipped to the United
States. It opened to public on March 15, 2019.
MATERIALS: The vessel, New York is 16 stories high and its most important material is
the beautiful modern raw welded and painted copper-like steel. They
imported this from a specialist steel fabricator in Venice, Italy.
PURPOSES: They designed the Vessel New York to be an interactive sculpture and a
public space. The intentions behind the piece were to design a monument
in Hudson Yards that engages people and not overshadows the
surrounding towers. It is a place for the public and residents of the
neighborhood to socialize.
Vessel (TKA) is a structure and visitor attraction built as part of the Hudson Yards
Project in Manhattan, New York City, New York. Built to plans by the British
designer Thomas Heatherwick, the elaborate honeycomb-like structure rises 16
stories and consists of 154 flights of stairs, 2,500 steps, and 80 landings for visitors to
climb.
• Vessel is the main feature of the 5-acre (2.0 ha) Hudson Yards Public Square.
Funded by Hudson Yards developer Related Companies, its final cost is estimated
at $200 million
One World Trade Center
(Freedom Tower)
One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower)
• One World Trade Center, also known as One World Trade, WTC, and formerly the
Freedom Tower during initial planning stages.
• One World Trade Center is a multifunctional structure that embodies the resilience
and strength of New York City and the United States, while also fulfilling practical roles
as a commercial and cultural hub.

LOCATION: 285 Fulton Street Manhattan, New York City, U.S

WHEN WAS IT BUILT: Its construction began on April 27, 2006 was completed on May 10,
2013 and was inaugurated on November 3, 2014.
MATERIALS: HYBRID CONCRETE AND STEEL STRUCTURE
The design of One WTC is very different from that of the twin towers. While
they were held up by external steel columns, it has a hybrid concrete-and-
steel structure. The key to its strength is a massive, extremely strong
concrete core. Steel beams set into the concrete core support the floors,
enabling vast column-free expanses.
PURPOSES:
OFFICE SPACE: It is primarily an office building, providing commercial space for
various businesses and organizations. The tower has modern, high-quality office
space for companies in various industries.
MEMORIAL: As a part of the larger World Trade Center site, it serves as a memorial to
honor the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The 9/11 Memorial and
Museum are adjacent to the tower, preser the memory of those lost their lives.
ECONOMIC HUB : The tower plays a role in New York City's economic activities by
providing office space for businesses and contributing to the city's status as a global
financial and commercial hub.
AQUA TOWER
AQUA TOWER

create a community on its facade.
LOCATION: Located at 225 N. Columbus Drive, near Lake Michigan in the north of the
city of CHICAGO, Illinois, USA.
WHEN WAS IT BUILT: The project became effective in 2006 and construction began on
March 12, 2007 AND COMPLETED IT ON 2010
MATERIALS: Crystals
Balusters
Slabs
Balconies
Housing
Podium garden
Telescopic Platform
PURPOSE: The design for Aqua uses architecture to capture and reinterpret the human
and outdoor connections that occur more naturally when living closer to the
ground. Its distinctive form is achieved by varying the floor slabs across the
height the tower, based on criteria such as views, sunlight, and use.

steel and glass elements and contributing to the overall aesthetic of the
space.

“Bay Bridge” construction started on January 29, 2009 and the construction
ended on September 3, 2013.
