JIS B 2816: 1997 Steel socket-welding pipe fittings 1 Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the steel seamless pipe fit- tings, to be fitted by socket-welding mainly to pressure service pipings('), high pres- sure service pipings(*), high temperature service pipings(*), alloy steel pipings(*), stainless steel pipings(5) and low temperature service pipings(*) (hereafter referred to as “pipe fittings”) Notes (1) ® ® o 6) ) Remarks 1 Pipings using the carbon steel pipes for pressure service specified in JIS G 3454. (2) The end faces of the pipe fittings shall be right-angled to the center of axis of the pipe. 10 Appearance The pipe fitting shall be free from any flaw, wrinkles and other defects on both, surfaces of outside and inside, detrimental to serviceability 11 Materials The materials to be used for the pipe fittings shall be steel prod- ucts(*) or materials(*) equivalent to steel pipes as given in Table 4. Notes (1) These shall be the steel products which have conformed to the chemical composition of JIS pertaining to steel products as specified in Table 4, and.the mechanical properties and austenitic mean grain size thereof shall be those which have conformed to 13.3 and 13.4 respec- tively. (1) The pipe fittings shall be manufactured from the materials as given in 11 by hot or cold plastic working or cutting process, In the case where the materials of S25C or S30C of JIS G 4051 are finished by cutting process, it shall be carried out after normalizing or followed by tempering after quenching. 161 —B 2316— (2) The end faces of the pipe fittings shall be machine-finished. (8) ‘The pipe fittings shall be subjected to the heat treatment specified in Table 5. (4) Full annealing or isothermal annealing. —1165— —B 2316— 13 Inspections 13.1 Pressure resistance inspection The pressure resistance inspection shall be carried out by the manufacturer beforehand not for the products to be transacted but for the products of each manufacturing method and each shape. However, the half coupling may he represented by the full coupling. ‘This inspection shall be made as follows; Weld the pipe fitting to a pipe, in- crease internal pressure gradually by applying hydrostatic pressure, ascertain that it meets the requirements of 4 and then further increase the test pressure. The pipe fitting shall not burst even if it is kept for 3 min under the bursting pressure of a straight pipe corresponding to that pipe fitting, which is calculated by the following equation. 2st Poy where, bursting pressure of straight pipe (MPa) P ¢: minimum thickness of pipe (within tolerance) (mm) D: outside diameter of pipe (basic dimension) (mm) s: minimum value of tensile strength specified in JIS pertaining to steel pipes as given in Table 2 (N/mm?) 13.2 Inspection on chemical composition The inspection on chemical compo- sition of the pipe fitting materials shall be made by cast analysis, and the results shall meet the requirements of 5. 13.3 Inspection on mechanical properties The inspection on the mechanical Properties shall be made as specified below: (1) Test pieces One test specimen shall be taken from each same cast of the material to be used for pipe fittings, and after it is subjected to heat treatment under the same conditions as those for the pipe fitting, one test piece for the tensile test shall be taken out o From the material to be used for PL880, PL450 and PL690 pipe fittings, further one set (three pieces) of the Charpy impact test pieces shall be taken. (2) Shape of test pieces and test method The shape of test pieces and the test method shall be in accordance with JIS pertaining to materials used as given in Table 4. However, the tensile test piece of the steel bars may be served by No. 10 test piece. (8) Mechanical properties The mechanical properties shall meet the require- ments of 6. 13.4 Inspection on austenitic mean grain size of SUS321H The test speci- men for this inspection in accordance with 18.3 shall be subjected to the heat treat- ment under the same conditions as those for the pipe fittings, then, one test piece shall be sampled out of it for the test, and the results shall meet the requirements of 7. —1166— —B 2316— 18.5 Hardness inspection This inspection shall be carried out when required by the purchaser and the result shall meet the requirements of Table 3. The hardness test shall be in compliance with Annex. 13,6 Inspection on shapes and dimensions The inspection on the shapes and dimensions of pipe fittings shall be carried out by direct measurement or by means of limit gauge, and the results shall meet the requirements of 9. 18.7 Appearance inspection The appearance inspection shall be carried out by visual inspection, and the results shall meet the requirements of 10. 14 Designation The pipe fittings shall be designated by the number or the title of this Standard, type and its symbol, symbol of grade according to material and nominal size [nominal diameter(!5) x nominal thickness]. For the nominal size of the reduced pipe fittings, the following rules apply : (1) For reduced fittings having two bores, indicate the larger diameter as ®, the smaller as @, and designate them in the order of © and ®. (2) For reduced fittings having three bores, indicate the larger diameter of the two on the same or parallel center line as ®, the smaller as ®, and the rest as @, and designate them in the order of ®, @ and ®. If nominal diameters on the same center line are equal, one of them may be omitted. (3) For reduced fittings having four bores, indicate the largest diameter as ®, the diameter on the same or parallel center line as @, the larger diameter of the remaining two as @, and the smaller as ®, and designate them in the order of ®, @, @ and ®. Note (#) For the designation of nominal diameter, the sign "A" or suffixed to the respective numerals for distinction. shall be 15 Marking The pipe fittings shall be marked with the following particulars by an indelible means. ‘The order of the items to be marked is not specified here. (1) Symbol of grade according to material (2) Nominal size (nominal diameter('8)(") x nominal thickness(*)] (3) Manufacturer's name or abbreviation Notes (*) In the case where the nominal diameter is indicated by A, the letter "A" shall be clearly marked after the numeral. () If it is difficult for a small pipe fitting to bear all of the markings specified above, the marking of nominal diameter may be omitted. Special quality specification The special quality specification shall be applied when required by the purchaser, and the manufacturer shall carry out the tests on the items designated. 1 Hardness test of pipe fittings 1.1 The hardness test of the pipe fittings shall be carried out on pipe fittings. 1.2 The hardness and test methods shall be subject to the agreement between the purchaser and manufacturer. 1.3 The hardness test of the pipe fittings shall be carried out on one piece per lot * of the pipe fittings Note * The lot of the pipe fittings mentioned here is defined as a batch of the pipe fittings produced from the same material and of the same manu- facturing method. The lot size and others are subject to the agreement between the purchaser and manufacturer. 2 Elevated temperature yield point or proof stress 2.1 The elevated temperature tensile test shall be carried out on test specimen. 2.2 The elevated temperature yield point or value of proof stress and the test temperature are subject to the agreement between the purchaser and manufacturer. 2.8 The shape of test piece and test methods shall be in accordance with JIS G 0567. 2.4 One test specimen shall be taken from each cast of the material to be used for the pipe fittings, and it shall be subjected to the heat treatment under the same condition as for that for the pipe fittings. One test piece shall be taken from the test specimen for each test temperature. 3 Ultrasonic examination of materials 3.1. The ultrasonic examination of materials to be used for the pipe fittings shall be made in accordance with Annex Z3 of JIS pertaining to steel pipes given in Table 2 of the text of this Standard as appropriate. In this examination, the vertical method shall be adopted and the number of frequencies shall be 1 MHz to 5 MHz. 3.2 The height of wave reflected from the bottom face of no defective part of the steel product shall be so adjusted as to reach 75 % to 90 % of the full scale of the cathode-ray tube and as not to come to 5 % or under of the full scale at any time. 4 Charpy impact test for PS370, PS410 and PS480 4.1 The test shall be carried out on test specimen. —1173- —B 2316—~ 4.2 Absorbed energy, test temperature, shape of test piece and test method for Charpy impact test shall be in accordance with Annex Z5 of JIS G 8455. 4.3 One test specimen shall be taken from each cast of material to be used for the pipe fittligs and subjected to heat treatment under the same condition as that for the pipe fittings. Then, one set (3 pieces) of test piece shall be taken from the test specimen heat-treated. 5 Corrosion test of stainless steel 5.1 The test shall be carried out on test specimen or pipe fitting. 5.2 The corrosion test of stainless steel shall be carried out on items designated by the purchaser in accordance with Annex Z6 of JIS pertaining to steel pipes as given in ‘Table 2 of the text of this Standard. 5.8 Corrosion resistance and test method of stainless steel shall be in accordance with Annex Z6 of JIS pertaining to steel pipes as given in Table 2 of the text of this Standard. 5.4 When the test is carried out on test specimen, one test specimen shall be taken from each same cast of material to be used for the pipe fittings and subjected to heat treatment under the same condition as that for the pipe fittings. Then, one test piece shall be taken from the test specimen heat-treated. When pipe fitting is used for the test, the test shall be carried out on one piece per lot* of pipe fittings. Note * Refer to the Note of 1.3. 6 Liquid penetrant examination of pipe fittings 6.1 The method of the liquid penetrant examination and the flaw indication of the pipe fittings shall be in accordance with JIS Z 2343, (1) No flaw indication owing to crack shall be found. (2) The linear flaw indication, circular flaw indication, continuous flaw indication and scattered flaw indication shall be subject to the agreement between the purchaser and manufacturer. 6.2 The liquid penetrant examination of the pipe fittings shall be carried out for each piece of the pipe fittings, and the range of examination is to be subject to the agreement between the purchaser and manufacturer. 7 Product analysis 7.1 The method of product analysis and the analytical values shall be as specified in JIS pertaining to steel pipes as given in Table 2 of the text of this Standard, 7.2 The test specimen shall be taken from the material to be used for the pipe fittings or from the pipe fittings, and the number of the test pieces to be taken from each cast shall be one. =e
