ARCHITECTURAL
GUIDELINES FOR
ARCHITECURAL DESIGN PROPONENTS
Prepared by Arch. Carlo J. Madrona UAP RMP Thesis Class Adviser SY 2020 – 2021
Architectural Design Background
Design is the epitome of a student’s college life, hopefully with their projects they
can both showcase their growth as an architecture student displaying all the
needed aspects needed to be future architects and as an individual with redeeming
character of a future professional.
This guidelines will make sure that we will have a standardized approach on our
presentation while still providing liberty to students for their defense requirements
and presentations. This guidelines will be only used as a class basis (architectural
Design 7 & 8) and will not be used on any purpose and on any other class.
Students are required to submit, attend and present a variety of required aspect to
both concerned individual and as well as panels. This will be the sole and main
basis for their grades for their final design subject.
Students requirement are not limited only to drawings and manuscript but also
including required aspects such as different required forms to be handled by the
thesis proponents.
Students are also required to attend minimum meetings with their design class
adviser and thesis technical adviser on a timely scheduled meeting.
The main output of the students and the aspects of each group will be divided into
drawing requirements, written requirements, presentation requirements and
attendance (meeting) requirements.
Each drawings will not be limited to the following but it will be the minimum
basics/Basis for the drawing requirements for each student. Students can go
beyond but not lower each requirement. Failure to comply for the minimum
requirements can and may result to a failed design defense grade for the student
The goal is to provide a variety of options to allow students to choose what best
presentation aspect best will represent their design concepts and solutions.
Given here are options on how students can present their works for their final
defense. It is encouraged that this will be discussed together with their advisers to
convey the best option for each group’s presentation.
1. Manual drafted drawings for final drawings, on 20 x 30 boards or paper.
Provided on each drawings are labels such as scale and drawing title. Each
Page must be provided with a title block including a unique group logo for
on each individual page. Title block must contain the following detail; project
title, each student’s name, subject, professor and drawing title.
2. Scanned and digitally enhanced mechanically drafted or freehand drawings
15”x20” paper or A3 paper. First Copy Shall be colored while the second and
third copies may be in black and white. Provided on each drawings are labels
such as scale and drawing title. Each Page must be provided with a title block
including a unique group logo for on each individual page. Title block must
Contain the following detail; project title, each student’s name, subject,
professor and drawing title.
3. Computer processed drawings and renderings printed directly on 20”x30”
mounted on boards. Three copies of all items in the given presentation board
arranged accordingly on A4 size paper. All Copies Shall be in black and white.

Written Requirements
Each Written requirement must be provided during the day of the presentation with
the other drawing and presentation requirements. Each written requirement must
follow the standard aspect for each. All forms and documents must be labeled and
answered by the proponents. The minimum no. of copies and size of paper must
followed at all times, failure to do so may and can result failed DESIGN defense grade
for the STUDENT.
Research Requirements
Comprehensive micro site analysis/site Site study of the project site that
computations shows different on site building
footprints and shows important on site
elements that may affect the projects
overall design and functional
approach. Shows vehicular movement
and pedestrian movement around the
site. Site computations based on
codes and standards.
Behavioral analysis/ utility location Single line floorplan, that shows basic
analysis plans (scaled ) that show movement
of user as divided to different
applicable types. Provide different
color lines for each type of user
function.
Each Presentation requirement must be provided along with the given drawing
requirements and written document/form requirements failure to do so may and
can result failed thesis design grade for the student.
ATTENDANCE ( MEETING REQUIREMENTS )
Design proponents will be required to consult with their technical advisers, with a
minimum of (2) meetings. For each meeting DESIGN proponents will prepare a set of
questions beforehand for their meeting with their technical adviser as well as
answering a set of post consultation report both to be answered by the proponents.
The required (2), failure to comply with the minimum required meetings may
result with the group’s exclusion from the approval/endorsement stage of the
thesis.
Individual group (3) three consultations will be required for each groups.
The required (3) minimum meeting does not include the final endorsement or
approval of the thesis class adviser or the initial post defense meeting scheduled by
the thesis class adviser
The thesis class adviser may ask the proponent for an update meeting scheduled
beforehand failure to do attend the meeting on the scheduled date by the thesis
class adviser must be explained by the group through a letter.
Failure to comply with the minimum required meetings may result with the group’s
exclusion from the approval/endorsement stage of the thesis.
When not preoccupied with individual group consultations class meetings will be
scheduled on a weekly basis, or in an urgent basis if something important must be
discussed.
Failure to attend a scheduled meeting the student must submit a written (letter)
explaining the reasons for failure to attend said meeting.

APPROVAL & ENDORSEMENT
The proponents must consult with their class class adviser as well as their technical
adviser to proceed with their Architectural l Defense. The basis for this approval
shall be substantial completion of all output for 90 % of their total work. This
output will be checked by both class adviser and their technical adviser for
approval.
After the set meeting and the student(s) project has been approved to proceed to
the final defense, the students must provide a recommendation write up based on
the comments and suggestion of their design class adviser and design technical
adviser.
If the students failed to gain the approval of either advisers, the students will be
submitting a post consultation report on are the reasons for the failed approval and
endorsement of their project. If a student fails to gain the approval of each
advisers, Approval & endorsement of the students work may be done multiple times
on a given timeframe only.

REQUEST FOR MOCK DEFENCE (OPTIONAL)
Students may request an optional mock defense on a given period of time providing
the group can provide 50 percent completion on their overall requirement total.
Students may only need to inform their technical adviser and thesis adviser that
they will undergo a mock defense.
The defense (consultation aspect) of the mock presentation can only be attained
during a given time only. It is also dependent on the availability of the examiner.
An actual presentation where the DESIGN proponents will explain their given
outputs in an online setup. (No uploaded video presentation)
Questions may be directed at the students during their presentation and after their
presentation
The thesis proponents must provide a post report regarding the comments and
suggestions of their Panels to their technical adviser and thesis adviser.
Students who have accomplished the requirement for their approval and
endorsement may finally request a schedule for their final defense. Students will
provide a formal letter asking for a schedule for their panel’s availability one letter
must be submitted to their Thesis adviser and will be forwarded to the Thesis Class
Head Panel and the Officer in Charge for the department.
This letter must provide the basics detail of the group (student’s name, Thesis Title,
at least 2 to 3 Student’s Available time and date and a letter asking formally for
each panels agreement on a scheduled date.
The period of the FINAL defense will only be limited to A DATE GIVEN BY THE
ADVISER not including the dates of encoding of grades and 2 days prior of the
encoding period to give time to their professors to cater to their obligations on their
given subject. (This dates may be due for changes depending on different changes
on the school activities and school calendar)
5. The Thesis proponents ensures that the Thesis Evaluation form is completed.
A majority decision of the examining committee will be binding except in the case
of an unacceptable project, which requires a unanimous vote.
FOLLOWING THE DEFENCE
Minor revisions
Minor revisions are corrections that can be made immediately to the satisfaction of
the Supervisor. Minor revisions may include:
Groups who are given a minor revision verdict may receive an evaluation grade
from each thesis panel right away, or the thesis panels may unanimously decide the
students’ needs to resubmit their works with changes for their minor revisions
before giving out their verdict and evaluation grades.
The period to make changes with their revisions will be limited to 3 days only.
The highest grade a group may receive upon receiving a minor revision verdict is
80 % only.
Major Revisions
The period to make changes with their major revisions will be limited to 7 days
only. The highest grade a group may receive upon receiving a minor revision
verdict is 75 % only.
