Down syndrome is a chromosomal condition caused by a full or partial extra copy of chromosome 21, resulting in intellectual disabilities, characteristic facial features, and low muscle tone. The intellectual disability is usually mild to moderate, and individuals experience cognitive delays. Common physical signs include a flat face, almond-shaped eyes that slant up, a short neck, small ears and hands/feet, and a single crease across the palm. There is no single treatment, but care focuses on meeting each person's individual needs and strengths to help them live at home and be part of the community.

Down syndrome is a chromosomal condition that is associated with intellectual
disability, a characteristic in facial appearance, and weak muscle tone (hypotonia) in infancy. All affected individuals experience cognitive delays, but the intellectual disability is usually mild to moderate. Trisomy 21: about 95% of people with down syndrome, each cell in the body has 3 separate copies of chromosome 21 instead of the usual 2 copies. A flatten face especially the bridge of the nose, almond-shaped eyes that slant up, short neck, small ears, a tongue that tend to stick out of the mouth, tiny white spots on the iris (colored part) of the eye, small hands and feet a single line across the palm of the hand (palmar crease), small pinky fingers that sometimes curve toward the thumb, poor muscle tone or loose joints, shorter in height as children and adults are the signs of down syndrome. There is no single, standard treatment for down syndrome, treatments are based on each individuals physical and intellectual needs as well as his or her strengths and limitations, people with down syndrome can receive proper care while living at home and in the community.
