Max. Duration: 30 mins Max. Marks: 15

Note: Write your assumptions, if any. Steps are important.

Q1. If 𝑑 = 1𝑚, and 𝜃 = 30 , determine the normal reaction at the smooth supports and the
required distance 𝒂 for the placement of the roller if P=600N. Neglect the weight of the bar. [5
Marks]

Q2. Determine the angle ϕ at which the applied force P should act on the pipe so that the
magnitude of P is as small as possible for pulling the pipe up the incline. What is the
corresponding value of P? The pipe weighs W and the slope is known α. Express the answer in
terms of the angle of kinetic friction θ, where (𝜃 = tan 𝜇 ). [5 Marks]

Q3. A uniform glass rod having a length L is placed in the smooth hemispherical bowl having
a radius r. Determine the angle of inclination θ in terms of L and r for equilibrium. [5 Marks]
