My grandma said once: “Challenges are in everyone’s life but prevailing over them
makes you different” Ever since I was a child, I have dreamed of studying engineering in the
United States. To achieve this goal, I applied to universities during my senior year of high
school. However, I did not receive any scholarships that matched my family’s financial situation.
Back in the day I thought I wouldn’t accomplish my dream but I remember those wise words of
grandma therefore, I decided to take some time off after graduating from high school in July
2023 and prepare myself for studying in the United States. My time off has not been a waste of
time; instead, it has been helpful for my community and the people that surround me.
During this time, I kept acquiring knowledge while I continued striving for my actual
goal. I took online courses from Harvard, EDX, and Coursera on physics, mathematics,
chemistry, and writing. These courses helped me improve my skills and learn new concepts that I
could apply to my personal project, a rainwater collection system for my grandfather’s farm, this
was a project I always wanted to do but I couldn’t when school was in session. Additionally, I
volunteered with an organization that focused on environmental issues and community
development, called "Techo". Through these experiences, I learned how to work effectively in
teams, communicate with diverse audiences, and make a positive impact on society by creating
homes for those people in my country that have lost their homes. I
My time off school has not meant I stopped learning; instead, it has helped me prepare
myself for college and for studying in the United States. My aspiration to study abroad remains
intact, and I am doing everything within my power to accomplish my goal and what I can’t
control I put it God’s hands. I want to contribute my unique experiences and skills.
I want my higher education in the US not to benefit me but to benefit the people in my
country, especially the people that work in the agricultural sector such as my grandfather, with
my mechanical engineer knowledge I would like to expand project of rainwater collectors into
whole communities and introduce them for free since many farmers in Honduras are have scarce
resources. I would be a blessing if St. Pierre Alliance would bless me with this opportunity.
