Do you want to have some fun?
Before you start the game in renaming decimals as
fractions, study the examples below.

0.8 = 10 0.25 = 100

8.82 = 8 100
Think…Think…Think…
Let us have a short review:
How do we rename a decimal as a fraction?
To rename 0.5 and 0.25 as fractions, we can use regions.
0.25=
25
100
5 1
0.5 or 10 2
5 1
0.5 = 10 or 2
GUIDE CARD
Here is another way to rename 5a decimal as a fraction.
Write the decimal as a fraction with a denominator of 10
or 100. Then divide the numerator and denominator by
their greatest common factor (GCF) to change the fraction
to lowest terms.
Rename 0.8 as a fraction with
denominator of 10
Step 10.8 = 108
Find the “Greatest Common Factor”
(GCF) of the numerator and
denominator
How do we find the greatest common factor of 2
numbers? First we find the prime factorization of both
numbers using the factor tree
8 10
Step 2
4 x 2 5 x 2
2x2
Step 3 Divide the numerator and denominator by the
GCF
8 8÷ 2 4

10÷ 2 5

So, 0.8 = 5

To rename a decimal as a fraction in lowest terms,
write it first as a fraction with a denominator of 10 or
100. Then divide the numerator and denominator by
their greatest common factor (GCF) to change the
fraction to lowest terms.
