QUESTION:
-Jail observation is a unique and eye-opening experience that provides an
insight into the criminal justice system and the lives of those who find themselves
incarcerated. I recently had the opportunity to observe life within the confines of a local
jail, an experience that left a profound impact on my understanding of our society and its
legal processes
During our Jail Visitation JCINSP REYNALD OCRETO, the City Jail warden
Of San Carlos City Pangasinan Jail He explain to us the importance of BJMP and also
he encourage us to join the BJMP because it is a good profession. And during the
discussion one of my classmate got dizzy. And after that JO3 RICKY FRIAS explain us
the mandate of BJMP. Also he explained to us the different facilities like the watch tower
on BJMP and the different activities inside the Jail for the rehabilitation of the PDL. Also
he explained us that not all the PDL are already convicted some PDL are waiting for trial
or undergoing trial. And he explained to us what is the life of a PDL.
During my jail observation The first thing that struck me was the stark
contrast between the outside world and the world inside the jail. The heavy steel doors,
the constant surveillance, and the limited personal space were all reminders of the loss
of freedom that inmates endure. One of the most significant takeaways from my
observation was the diversity of the inmate population. Contrary to common
stereotypes. This diversity highlighted the fact that anyone could find themselves on the
wrong side of the law, and it challenged my preconceived notions about who ends up in
jail. Furthermore, I was able to witness the challenges and struggles that inmates face
on a daily basis. From the lack of privacy to limited access to educational and
rehabilitative programs, it became evident that incarceration is not just about
punishment but also a missed opportunity for rehabilitation and personal growth.
Additionally, I observed the dedication of the correctional staff and the efforts they put
into maintaining order and ensuring the safety of both inmates and themselves. It's a
demanding job that often goes unrecognized, and my experience shed light on the
importance of their role in the criminal justice system.
My jail observation experience was a thought-provoking and humbling
journey. It shattered stereotypes, increased my empathy for those behind bars, and
deepened my appreciation for the complexities of the criminal justice system. It is my
hope that more people have the opportunity to participate in such observations, as it
can lead to a more informed and compassionate society that seeks not only to punish
but also to rehabilitate and reintegrate individuals into the community.
