Chapter 1: Ansys Licensing Portal Administrator's
Guide
This guide contains detailed information and instructions on how to perform administrative task on the
Ansys Licensing Portal.

1.1. Overview of Elastic Licensing

Ansys Elastic Licensing is a "pay-per-use" licensing system that enables hourly-based licensing of virtually
every Ansys product through a single product offering called Ansys Elastic Unit (AEU). Ansys Elastic Li-
censing complements other licensing solutions from Ansys by providing you with on-demand access
to core portfolio of pre-post, solver, and HPC simulation solutions. You only pay for what you use, al-
lowing you to efficiently meet fluctuating licensing demands throughout the year, while accommodating
high usage periods associated with critical new projects. You simply buy a number of AEUs and from
this "pool" as you consume them. Each Ansys product consumes a number of these AEUs per hour.

You can see the number of AEUs consumed by each product in the elastic license rate table. For inform-
ation on viewing this table, see Viewing License Entitlements (p. 7).

Summary of New and Changed Features

Listed below is a summary of those licensing items that are either new or have been changed since the
last release. For a list of all major new and changed features of any product, see the Release Notes
document for that product.

• To support the expanded licensing technology functionality and provide improved access to the li-
censing documentation, the single “Ansys Installation and Licensing” online help page has been split
into separate pages. For release 22.1 and higher, the help pages are split into ”Ansys Installation” and
”Ansys Licensing”.

• HPC license sharing has been modified to allow 4 free tasks across all variants irrespective of the
number of solver types in HPC parametric context flow.

the steps below.

1. From the Ansys Licensing Portal Menu, click Entitlements>Elastic Licensing.

The active and inactive entitlements on the license server are displayed. Entitlements are dis-
played primarily by order of closest expiration date and then by usage percentage. Those enti-
tlements with a higher usage percentage are displayed first.

The data in the Remaining Days and Used Percentage columns is dynamic and provides
visual warnings.

The number of days remaining until the license pool expires is displayed in the Remaining
Days column. The color of the display changes from green to yellow when the number of days
remaining is less than or equal to 90 and red when the number of days remaining is 30 or less.

Note:

Thirty days prior to license pool expiration, the Licensing Portal sends an auto-
matic warning email.

The total AEU pre-paid allowance usage is displayed in the Used Percentage column. The color
of the display changes from green to yellow when the usage percentage is 80 to 95 percent
and red when the usage exceeds than 95 percent.

85%, 90%, 95% and 100% of total AEU pre-paid allowance usage.

2. You can view the elastic license rate table details associated with each AEU entitlement by
clicking the appropriate link in the Rate Table column. This link re-directs you to Consumption
Table (PDF) on the Ansys website.

The rate table may be updated to add or remove products, or to increase or decrease product
consumption rates. Rate table updates are defined as:

a. A major update (for example, 3.0 => 4.0) can include the addition and removal of products,
and the increase or decrease of product consumption rates.

b. A minor update (for example, 3.0 => 3.1) generally only includes the addition of products
and the decrease of product consumption rates. Note that other changes, including the re-
moval of products, may take place as part of a minor update, for instance if Ansys is legally
required to remove a third-party from its Elastic offering.

When you purchase Ansys Elastic Units, the rate table version available on that date is associated
with the purchase. The major version will remain the same for the duration of the purchase
