CRITICAL THINKING

1.- TITLE OF THE ARTICLE AND AUTHOR:

Title: Nonpharmacological interventions for depression:

Millions of people worldwide suffer from depression, a serious mental disorder. The importance of
non-pharmacological interventions in the management and treatment of depression is increasingly
recognized, despite the fact that traditional pharmacological treatments have proven to be effective.
These interventions, which include psychological therapies and lifestyle changes, provide a
comprehensive and complementary approach to improving the mental health and well-being of
people suffering from depression.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is one of the most popular non-pharmacological treatments for
depression. Negative and distorted thought patterns that contribute to depression are identified and
modified during this therapy. The therapist and patient work together to uncover the underlying
causes of depression and create methods to change negative thoughts and behaviors. Behavioral
Behavioral Therapy (BTBT) has been shown to be an effective treatment for depression by giving
people the skills and tools to cope with emotional challenges in a healthier way.

Physical activity and exercise: Regular physical activity and exercise has been shown to be an
effective non-pharmacological treatment for depression. Exercise causes the release of endorphins,
neurotransmitters that make you feel better and reduce depressive symptoms. Exercise also helps
establish healthy daily routines, improves self-esteem and encourages social interaction. Moderate
physical activity and aerobic exercise have been shown to be significantly more effective in reducing
symptoms of depression and preventing relapse.

Social support and group therapy: Both interventions are essential in the management of depression.
Interaction with people in similar circumstances can generate feelings of belonging, understanding
and acceptance. In a supportive environment, sharing experiences, emotions and coping techniques
can help reduce feelings of isolation and foster hope and recovery. In addition, social support from
friends, family and loved ones is essential in preventing and treating depression because it provides
important emotional support.

Non-pharmacological interventions are a comprehensive and complementary treatment for

depression. Effective interventions that can help people overcome depressive symptoms and
improve their quality of life include social support, physical activity and exercise, transcranial
magnetic stimulation therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. It is critical that health professionals
and people suffering from depression consider these interventions as part of a comprehensive
approach to mental health care, taking advantage of their benefits and combining them with other
treatment strategies according to individual needs.
