Nature and educational purpose of School History.

History is important in its own right - and those who favoured its extrinsic value –
history is important for moral or civic agenda (White 1994). Knowledge about history
constitutes the basis of people's consciousness towards historical concepts and
facts. Around the continent each country has its own history occurred different time
and place. Historical education allow teaching to be as socialize grade-school
learners to accept a particular view of a nation accomplishment. New generation of
today intend to learn on what we called apartheid in South Africa started in 1948, 75
years ago, it’s a history by its own that White argued that it must be taught.

History known as the study that focuses on the past events occurred particularly in
humans’ life. Some several recent studies suggest that although many pupils find
history interesting and enjoyable (Biddulph. and Adey. 2001, Fink, 2004, QCA,
2005). Teachers must able to develop leaners understanding of the purpose of the
history, thus it is also possible that learners’ motivation and engagement with the
subject.
