R: a word that describes someone or something

Q: what are the types of nouns?

R:

1- Proper Noun : starts with capital ex: Christmas

2- Common noun : has two types countable and uncountable

a) COUNTABLE :

Countable nouns are things we can


count.

A countable noun can be singular


(banana) or plural (bananas).
 Concrete (material existence)
example; a book
 Abstract (non material
existence) example; an idea

b)UNCOUNTABLE :

Uncountable nouns are things we can


not count.

An uncountable noun has only one form


(rice).

 Concrete (material existence)


example; cotton
 Abstract (non material existence)
example : courage

3-compound noun : they consists of two or more words joned together and has many
types

a) NOUN+NOUN
b) ADJ + NOUN
c) VERB+ NOUN
d) GERUND+NOUN
e) NOUN+VERB
f) NOUN+GERUND

4- pair noun : we use a pair noun for a thing made of two parts which are the same, it
has plural form and takes plural verb; for example glasses

5-collective noun :

 Group words with plural form : we can use singular and plural verbs with them
For example : government

 Group word without plural form : we can use singular and plural verb with them
For example : public

Q: when do we use the possessive case (the genitive) (‘s) ?

-Add ’s to singular nouns

-Add ’s to singular nouns ending in –s

-Add ’s to irregular plural nouns

-Add ’s to names ending in –s

-Add ‘s to none living

Q : when do we use the possessive case (the genitive) (‘) ?
