Dear Dominique,

I wish to be considered for a Summer Internship with DLA Piper. I am a current LPC student who has built up
valuable experience within the private sector and am confident that with my academic background and
professional experience I would be an asset to DLA Piper. I was first introduced to the firm at a careers event
organised by the Law Society, where I spoke with current trainee solicitor Derek Murphy about his experience
at the firm. This led me to research the firm's corporate and restructuring practices, which I am interested in.
Following this networking opportunity, the firm’s recruitment team invited me to an evening presentation
and, shortly after, I applied for and was selected to attend the firm's open day event.

During my studies at Birkbeck University, I sought out experience relevant to a career as a solicitor. I
undertook a two-day insight placement at Eversheds Sutherland. I shadowed a trainee in the corporate team
and had the opportunity to review a shareholder agreement for one of the firm's international clients. I
flagged a potential disadvantage to the client in the language on choice of jurisdiction in case of arbitration.
My supervisor was pleased with my findings and commended the commercial awareness I displayed in
highlighting a potential risk to the client. This experience reaffirmed my enthusiasm for pursuing a career in a
global law firm. I can draw on this experience, if given the chance to intern at DLA Piper and gain exposure to
global corporate deals.

I recognise that much of DLA Piper's success as a leading global firm is down to the firm's innovative approach
and as part of this trainees are expected to think boldly and independently - qualities that resonate with my
values and experience. In a highly competitive business environment, clients are looking for solicitors who are
good commercial thinkers. In my current position as a financial affairs manager for a high-net-worth individual
and entrepreneur, I draft sales agreements for transactions in assets such as classic cars and paintings owned
by offshore ventures. I have found that having an understanding of commercial law is beneficial but what
makes me successful in the role is my ability to analyse changing market conditions and trends and how that
will affect our asset trades, 70% of which are in fine cars. I advised the client to sell a Bentley Continental GT
before the new GT version becomes available in the market. This timing decision resulted in a saving of
£50,000.

DLA Piper has a top tier ranking in multi-jurisdictional transactions. For example, you advised Starboard Equity
Private Group on the R$3 billion debt restructuring of the Brazilian retailer Maquina de Vendas through a
cooperation firm in Brazil, Cello Mello Advogados. As I am fluent in Portuguese, English and Spanish, I can add
value to the due diligence exercises in such cross-border transactions. I would also be keen to explore the
possibility of a secondment abroad and believe I can make a good business case for this due to my language
skills.

The firm's pro bono and volunteer commitment is also particularly important to me. I volunteer as a mentor to
struggling families in the Bexley Community. Coming from a country with severe inequality and a high level of
poverty, I understand firsthand how a country's budget constraints can affect the legal aid system. This
experience reinforced my passion for law. DLA Piper's pledge of $6.5 million to UNICEF and its commitment to
pro bono work as a professional responsibility align with my values and make me enthusiastic about pursuing
a position at the firm.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and I look forward to your response.

Your sincerely,

Evelyn Barth
