The Almamate project is using both types of MOOCs i.e.

xMOOC
which uses the traditional model of education and more linear and
cMOOC which is based on Collaboratory philosophy.

Technical and Functional Requirements for Almamate:


1. Free registration and access to learning material:
The Almamate course contents are easily accessible after login.
The registration can be easily done by clicking on the link given
and there is no charges for registration and accessing the
course material. In short, it is open to everyone.
2. Layout and duration of the course:
The learning material consist of videos, lecture notes, relevant
literature and some assignments to accomplish under time
constraints. The quizzes and exams are designed for certain
courses. The learners have to devote 10 to 15 hours per week
to manage the workload depending upon the course taken.
Content Requirements:
1. The Almamate aims to provide the efficient and relevant course
material to learners. The distractive material is avoided.
2. All learning resources are equipped with brief summary of the
course, table of contents, days to complete the course and
number of assessments required to accomplish the course.
3. Some additional links are being provided with all learning
material for further referencing.
4. All contents related to courses are localised appropriately.
5. There is separate learning support section is being offered for
more convenience.
Some key features of Almamate:
1. In the learning environment of Almamate, the online discussion
forums are provided to facilitate the learners
2. Personal writing space is provided in the form of blog to all the
learners and teachers
3. The system is collaborated with social networking sites as well
like Twitter, Facebook to make social connections and easy
sharing
4. Our project is following the strategic structure communication
via messages to engage the students and try to grab the focus
of learners. The reason behind these regular messages is to
provide feedback, some announcements and other reminders
that can help them
