ABSTRACT Method
Multi‐objective digital circuit block
optimisation based on cell mapping in an
industrial electronic design automation
Result
flow

Impact
Problem
how the steps in each design are
optimized independently,
additional costs and
inefficiencies can accumulate
therein ?
Method
The fully automated multi-objective (MO) system EDA Flow was
introduced to address this problem. It specifically fine-tunes drive
power mapping, before physical implementation, via a MO
population-based search algorithm. Designs are evaluated based
on their strength, performance, and area (PPA). The proposed
approach is aimed at the optimization of digital circuits at the
block level, if it is capable of expanding the design space and
offering a set of trade-off solutions for various specific utilization
cases. Proposed multi-objective electronic design automation
(MOEDA) framework for ISCAS-85 and EPFL benchmark circuits
using commercial 65 nm standard cell libraries.
Result
MOEDA flow improves the solutions
originally produced by standard
digital flows and simultaneously
achieves significant improvements
in PPA metrics.
Impact
significant improvement in PPA over
standard tool solutions. It can be
concluded that optimizing technology
mapping to improve cell driving force
selection is beneficial for improving
circuit PPA. This is not only
demonstrated for a single solution but
across the entire design space with
various circuit topologies.
