 Year 12 2020/2021 Sixth Form Subject Free Choice Survey Guidance Notes

The subjects offered in Year 12 from September 2020 are shown overleaf. If you intend
studying at Cardiff High School Sixth Form next year, you should indicate your preferred
choice of subjects by placing an x next to four subjects.

Notes

 Your choice now is not binding. Students often change their minds after the results,
but the choices made by students in this survey will be used to develop the five
option blocks from which final student choices will be selected. Whilst every effort will
be made to accommodate the vast majority of students’ choices, timetabling
constraints may result in some subject combinations being unavailable.

 All subjects, except Skills Challenge Certificate, are examined at the end of Y12.
These courses are two year programmes of study.

 Guidance from Universities on subject choice, and number of subjects to be studied,

may be obtained from the UCAS web site (www.ucas.com). Degree courses, for
which there is a lot of entry competition, such as; English, Medicine, Pharmacy, Law,
Dentistry, Veterinary Science, require 4 AS subjects to be studied and particular
subject combinations

 Please choose your subject combinations carefully, especially if you have a

career in mind that requires specific ‘A’ level qualifications to enter University e.g.
medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering. If in doubt consult your subject
teachers, careers advisor or the UCAS website.

 The School, supported by the Local Authority, reserves the right to withdraw courses
that do not attract sufficient student interest.
