OBJECTIVE / HYPOTHESIS

● The objective was to determine if there is a habitat preference for

macroinvertebrates in the outflow versus the bog based on the flow of the
water.
● It was hypothesized that there would be more macroinvertebrates present in the
Cedar Run Outflow than the water at the Cedar Run Bog which had much less
flow
● This is due to the fact that the flowing water would allow them to be swept
downstream into the leaf packs with ease
● In return, they would have shelter provided to them along with a food source

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

We thank Mr. David Werner (Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science, New
Jersey) and Dr. Amy Williams (Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science, New
Jersey) for assistance in collecting the materials for the leaf packs, constructing the leaf packs,
and guidance throughout the experiment. We also thank the Ocean County Vocational Technical
Schools for providing the opportunity and necessary supplies needed to conduct this research
project.
