They can also bbe used in industry as motor control centres. 4.4.1. System TYPE The Holec Unitole system is an air insulated, metal enclosed switching and distribution syste for application in medium voltage installations. Itfits into the ‘metal enclosed switchgear’ category in accordance with IEC 298 including appendix AA. 1.1.2 SYSTEM CONSTRUCTION ‘A Unitole UP installation is constructed of sheet ‘metal switch panels, withdrawable vacuum circuit breakers and contactors, ‘The main busbar system is located above the panels. It is made up of copper bars supported in ‘each panel by insulators. To limit damage from an arc in the busbar compartment (and to direct it towards the end panels), the busbar system is located in a continuous busbar duct. The bars can be insulated As an option, the busbar compartment can be provided with partitions for each switch panel. Pressure relief valves at the top of the switchboards prevent overpressure in the switchboard that may bbe caused by an arc, The field name plate at the top of the front of each panel ensures that exhaust ‘gases are passed over and away from operating personnel [At the top of every switchboard an additional low voltage compartment (for secondary equipment), or a transformer compartment (for a voltage transformer), may be fitted, 99450982018 The installation is divided into fields (such as switch fields, a busbar section panel, etc). The width of 2 field is determined by the number of panels of which it is built up (usually one, sometimes two). The switchboard are available in three widths, depending on the equipment on the panel Models The Unitole UP may contain optional equipment such as built-on compartments, busbar insulating bushings, tapered bushings, et The table on page 4 and diagram on page 4 contain 2 summary of the models. For further information, refer to the technical data, 4.2. Earthing bush: Unitole UP switchgear contains a continuous earthing busbar to which all components of the installation can be connected. Earthing set ‘The simplest earthing is a short circuit proof earthing set. This is made up of four earthing cables connected with a neutral point. One of the cables is fitted with an earthing terminal, which is clamped to the earthing busber. ‘The other three cables have phase terminals; these are fitted to the cable or busbar to be earthed using an attachment stick Both types of earthing set are shown opposite. Earthing switch Each switch panel may be fitted with a short circuit proof earthing switch in each cable compartment. ‘The earthing switch connects the connection points of the cable with the earthing busbar. A mechanical interlock ensures that the earthing switch is always ‘open when the switch in the switch compartment is connected with the primary circuit: The earthing switch can be locked with a padlock. Some installations include special locks, ie, the use of a locking coil Earthing switch truck ‘An earthing switch truck is a switch truck with an earthing switch mounted on it. It ean be used for the earthing of a busber. Busbar earthing with earthing switch truck The earthing switch truck is inserted in the usual way, in the relevant switch panel. In the operating condition, the earthing switch makes contact with the earthing busbar in the panel and the busbar side isolating contacts. The earthing switch is ‘mechanically switched on with the panel door open. ‘Operating shaft of the earthing switch, at the bottom of the switch panel. 9945098- Sof 14 2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION 2.1.7 SwircHES Unitole UP switchgear may contain a multitude of ‘switching equipment. The main types of switches are: Circuit breakers A circuit breaker is made up of a set of three Holec vacuum interrupters and an operating mechanism. This assembly is mounted on a switch truck. When switching up to 2000, connections between cable and busbar are made via busbar strips with laminated contacts. Switches for heavier currents are fitted with tulip contacts Electrical control signals are supplied from the low voltage compartment via @ 40-pole secondary plug. ‘Mechanical and electrical interlocks prevent Unintentional switching, Contactors Contactors are used for the switching of motors and transformers (up to 7.2 kV). When switching a transformer or capacitor bank the nominal current is switched by the contactor; a short-circuit current is interrupted by fuses. Contactors exist in two versions: * latched whereby the ON condition is maintained (as with 2 circuit breaker) after switching on; the contactor can be switched off mechanically or electrically, + nontatched the contactor remains ON as long as the col is energised A contactor is fitted to a truck together with the relevant voltage transformers and fuses. With a short-circuit or overload the primary fuse trips and the striker pin of the fuse ensures that the contactor is switched off via an auxiliary contact. 994509 Gort 2.2 PANEL TYPES Unitole UP switchgear is built up in modular fashion of panels with different functions.
