Indian firms in India to cater to the Indian market. The event will have presentations from industry

1
Entries received will undergo a review process. Shortlisted entries will be notified to submit as a
1500 word article on the innovation, and will be invited to present the innovation at Indian
Institute of Science, Bangalore. The selected articles and videos of presentations will be
published in National Design Innovation Network, an online platform connecting the design
community of India (design students, trainers, the Design Innovation Centres) in its exclusive

● An industrial product originated or invented in India for use in the Indian market (or global
market).
● Product must have made a significant change in lifestyle.
● Must be a successful product widely used at present time point (contemporarily in the
last 5 years).
● Product successful or popular for a particular era and influenced another product that is
presently widely used or successful.
● A process or service involving tangible products for its delivery or operation which
transformed the way a product/service was used/operated/carried out, may also be
included. E.g. Aravind Eye Hospital chain in South India, scaled the cataract surgeries
performed per day in India by five times, using a new service model for operational
efficiency between two consecutive surgeries.
● Products designed by foreign firms for foreign markets, but manufactured in India.
● Handmade crafts.
● Products naturally evolved to a machine made product for the globalised world. E.g.
Pressed leaf plates is an expected evolution of raw leaves used to serve food, and is not
a radical innovation.
● Products created to meet legal or environmental regulations. E.g. Saree guard attachment
in motorcycles is a legal enforcement in India, so a must accessory.
● Products from Indian start-ups or groups not yet launched in the market.
● Test of time products: Products from colonial era British inventions or Mughal inventions,
where traditional industry exists and continues to produce the product in the same
fashion without much change.
