What is an A+ certification?

A+ certification is an informal name for CompTIA A+ certification. This qualification

is also sometimes just called A certification. A+ certification, sponsored by the IT
organization CompTIA, certifies entry-level computer technology skills. The skills
that CompTIA A+ certification verifies include:

 Installing and configuring computer systems and peripherals,

including modems and printers
 Upgrading computer systems
 Troubleshooting computer problems
 Repairing computers and computer systems

Many people complete a short 5- or 10-day course through an IT training company

to prepare for the A+ exam. Completing a CompTIA A+ certification training course
can deepen your technical understanding, especially if you are working outside IT.
However, candidates can also undertake self-study before sitting for the exam.

The CompTIA A+ certification exam is comprised of two tests. The first focuses on
core hardware technologies, and the second centers on operating systems. Once
registered candidates pass the exam, they receive their CompTIA A+ certification.

CompTIA recommends candidates have between 9 to 12 months of IT experience

before sitting for the exam. However, as this experience is not essential, many
people get their CompTIA A+ certification after graduating from high school or
college. This certification can also help people with unrelated work experience
transition to an IT role. Candidates without IT experience should have a basic
understanding of computers and their networks.
