La Placita Olvera in Los Angeles

La Placita Olvera is a historic street in downtown LA that gives you a little glimpse

of Hispanic/ Latinx culture and their everyday hustle. I had the opportunity to visit

this street with my mom and sister before I took the train back to Northridge from

the LA Union Station. The street is neat with lots of different flags, colors,

restaurants, museums, little souvenir shops where you can find handcrafted bags,

shoes, clothes, toys, and many other miscellaneous items. Though the prices are

LA influenced, I believe it is worth it because they are all authentic and the

business owners work hard to make all their products (and most of the time by

hand). I’m Puerto Rican and found it comforting and fun to be in an environment
surrounded by my community and people just exploring and having a good time

with their families. It felt safe. I wasn’t there too long but I got to see a live music

performance, drink fresh Agua frescas, buy handmade dresses and wallets for my

friends, and visit one of the museums down this street which was quite nice.
