54 years ago when NASA announced the landing of Apollo 11, thousands of people
witnessed the launch directly, and millions more watched on television. To this day, about 11%
of Americans still believe that the moon landing was staged. Conspiracy theory “rejects the
standard explanation for an event and instead credits a covert group or organization with carrying
out a secret plot” (dictionary.com). The moon landing conspiracy theories state that the U.S.
government had staged to win the space race with the Soviet Union began to gain support in the
mid-1970s. The argument is presented in numerous forms such as books, documentaries, and
countless online debates. According to Bill Kaysing, a former US Navy officer who contributed
to the Apollo moon missions and claimed that “he had inside knowledge of a government
conspiracy to fake the moon landings.” One conspiracy theory questions that if the moon landing
in 1969 was real, why has NASA never been back even when technology advances? The
opposition claims that the International Space Station has changed its priorities but it does not
imply that they will not return in the future. Countless debatable points of this conspiracy have
been provided with sufficient back-up evidence from both the for and against sides. Despite
continuing cries of hoaxes from the theorists, the wealth of information online has confidently
