The Prof, Rahmatullah Khan Memorial Public Lecture is proposed to be organised on 24 Nov 2023 at Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA Auditorium in hybrid mode. Professor Rahmatullah Khan (01 July 1934 to 31, March 2023) was the professor of International Law and held the Jawaharlal Nehru Chair for International Environmental Law at School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi (INU). He also served as the Head of Centre for Studies in Diplomacy, International Law and Economics (1979-1982), Vice-President of JNU Teachers’ Association (1978), President JNU Teachers ssociation (1979); Dean of School of International Studies (1990-1992) and Rector (1996- 1999) at the JNU. Before formally joining JNU: as an associate Professor of International Law at the School of International Studies in 1970, he was a lecturer at the Indian School of International Studies (1965-1969) and served as faculty at Indian Law Institute (1969-1970), New Delhi, Khan was an Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of International Law (1979- 1980) the Secretary General of the Indian Society of Intemational Lavi. He received the Humboldt Research Award in recognition of achievements in teaching and research, the first Indian scholar in International Law to do so, In recognition of his, contribution in legal education Symbiosis, Law, School, Pune had conferred upon him the IALS Lifetime Achievement Award for ‘Excellence in Legal and Justice Fducation in India’ in 2017 during the Global Law Dean's Forum and Annual Meeting 2017. Prod. Dr. Rahamatullah Khan had also visited Symbiosis Law School, Pune and delivered a lecture to the students in 2008. The Prof. Rahmatullah Khan Memorial Public Lecture will be an event of great importance which aims at celebrating the enduring legacy of one of the most distinguished legal scholars. His scholarly contributions have feft’an indelible mark on the legal landscape jenpactio the academic community and society at large. The lecture is proposed to be held in hybrid mode and students of all 4 sister Law Schools of SIU along with the faculty members and scholars will attend the lecture. The proposed public lecture aims to: 1. Honour the memory and contributions of Professor Rahmatullah Khan in the field of International Law 2.
